Baseball Falls to Farmingdale State

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Keuka College Baseball team lost a doubleheader on Saturday to Farmingdale State as a part of the spring trip to Florida.

Keuka College (0-4) dropped the opener to the Rams 11-4. A late rally in game two for Keuka came up short as the Wolves lost the nightcap by the score of 6-4.

Farmingdale State 11 vs. Keuka College 4 – Game 1

After a scoreless first two innings, the Rams struck first with three runs in the top of the third. Keuka answered in the bottom of the inning with a tally. With two outs, three straight singles by Sean Sheets, Dan Bamann, and Tyler Freedman scored a run for the Wolves to make it 3-1.

The Rams extended their lead with two more runs in the top of the fourth and three in the fifth. The Green and Gold got back on the board in the board with as Tyler Broderick doubled and scored for the Wolves, making it an 8-2 game.

Down 9-2, the Wolves plated a pair of runs as pinch hitters Ulric Petri and James Griffin singled and doubled, respectively. Petri scored from first on the Griffin double. Griffin would score himself on a single by fellow freshman Ryan Seales to cut the lead to 9-4. However, Farmingdale State added a pair of runs in the seventh on their way to the 11-4 victory.

Farmingdale State 6 vs. Keuka College 4 – Game 2

It was Keuka College who struck first in Game 2 against Farmingdale State. Tyler Broderick singled in second inning with one out. Following a strikeout, the Wolves had runners on second and third as Nick Brown doubled for Keuka. Both Broderick and Brown came home as Nick Ladd hit a two-run single to give Keuka College a 2-0 lead.

The Rams would get one run back in the bottom of the second inning and then add to their lead with three runs in the bottom of the third and two more in the bottom of the fourth.

Trailing 6-2, Keuka College attempted a rally in the top of the seventh. A one-out single by Ladd got it going. That was followed by a single by Brooks Vertoske. An error scored a run and advanced Vertoske, who scored on a groundout by Tyler Freedman. But the comeback would come up short for the Wolves as they lost in the second game 6-4.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Green and Gold will continue their southern trip on Monday as they face Springfield College in a doubleheader.
