HOUGHTON, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team earned an Empire 8 victory in extra innings for the second time this season, defeating Houghton University 7-5 in 13 innings on Friday afternoon.
Keuka College (7-15, 3-9 Empire 8) tied its season high with 14 hits in the win.
Patrick Altpeter,
Derek Novicki, and
Evan Cuba each had three hits in the win.

The Highlanders jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Wolves after one inning, but Keuka College fought back to tie the game.
Alex Evans tripled in the third and scored on a single by
Patrick Altpeter. Then in the fourth,
Mike Dutch walked and
Ian Ruhmel followed with a single. Dutch would move to third on a wild pitch and then score again on a wild pitch to tie the game at 2-2.
Back-to-back doubles gave Houghton the lead in the sixth inning. The Highlanders looked to add to their lead, but
Ryan Schur, Jr. came out of the bullpen and struck out two batters to end the inning.
Keuka College would tie the game and take the lead the next inning as they opened the seventh with a flurry. Novicki and Cuba both singled to start the inning.
Grady Kessler walked to load the bases with no outs.
Nate Hill singled to score Novicki and tie the game. After a new pitcher was brought in,
Mike Dutch was hit by the pitch to force in another run and give the Wolves a 4-3 lead. Houghton did a good job at limiting the damage, however, and escaped the inning only trailing by one.
The game would go to the bottom of the ninth with Keuka leading 4-3. Houghton led off with a double but Schur, Jr. got a pair of pop outs. However, a pinch hit single for Houghton would tie the game and send the conference game into extra innings.
It was slow between both teams until the bottom of the 12th. Houghton went walk, hit by pitch, walk to load the bases with no outs.
Mason Smith was on the mound for the Wolves and got three straight strikeouts to end the inning and send it to the 13th.
The Wolves carried the momentum into the 13th inning. Novicki and Cuba singled, and
Jay Antinore walked to load the bases with one out. The Wolves took advantage of wild pitches. One sent Novicki home to take the lead. Then on ball four to
Nate Hill, the pitch was wild allowing
Evan Cuba to score. Antinore took second on the play and
Evan Cuba came around to score to give the Wolves a 7-4 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, Houghton scored a run and had the tying run on first, but
Mason Smith got a strikeout to end the game with Keuka winning 7-5.

- Keuka College is now 2-0 in extra innings this season and have won fourth straight overall in games that went extras
- Brandon Wilson pitched three hitless innings for the Wolves in relief
- Mason Smith earned the win for Keuka, his first of the season. The senior recorded five of the six outs via the strikeout
