Wolves Swept at Home by Chargers

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Baseball team got swept by Lancaster Bible College at home on Saturday by the score of 15-3 and 6-2 in a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference games.

Keuka College (12-15, 5-5 NEAC) got three hits on the day from senior Dave Nuzzo. Brooks Vertoske got two hits on the day and drove in a pair of runs as well for Keuka College.

Keuka College 3 vs. Lancaster Bible College 15

Lancaster Bible College to the lead with two runs in the second inning, but the Wolves quickly answered. Rob LaRue and Jake Redding each had RBI singles for the Wolves in the second to level the game at 2-2. Keuka took a 3-2 lead in the third inning, but the Chargers responded in the top of the fourth with two runs to take a 4-3 lead. Lancaster Bible put the game away in the fifth, scoring nine runs to take a 13-3 lead. The Chargers added two late runs as they defeated the Wolves 15-3

Lead Wolf: Josh Wang threw a perfect inning of relief for Keuka College in the sixth. In seven appearances this season, it was the first for the junior not allowing a base runner. He has allowed just one run in his last four appearances, totaling 5 1/3 innings of work.

Keuka College 2 vs. Lancaster Bible College 6

Keuka College took the lead in the first inning of Game 2. The Wolves loaded the bases and Brooks Vertoske hit a sacrifice fly to plate one. However Keuka would lead two on base at the end of the inning. The runners left on cost Keuka the next inning as Lancaster Bible College scored two runs to take a 2-1 lead. The Chargers added to their lead with three in the sixth to make it 5-1. Twice in the game, Keuka had promising innings stopped by double plays. The teams traded runs in the seventh as Lancaster Bible College completed the sweep, defeating Keuka 6-2 on Sunday.

Lead Wolf: Brooks Vertoske plated both runs for Keuka College in the nightcap without recording a hit. The freshman hit a pair of sacrifice flies to score runners. On the season, Vertoske has accounted for 24 runs for Keuka College, scoring 13 and driving in 11 in his first season as a Wolf.

  • Despite the losses, Keuka College still holds the series lead over Lancaster Bible College 7-6
  • Dakota Skinner went 0-1 with three walks in Game 1 of the doubleheader, snapping his career-best 21 game hitting streak
  • Wyatt Conklin got the start on the mound in Game 2 and set a new career-high with five strikeouts
  • Only three of the 21 runs allowed by Keuka College on Saturday were earned

Coming up for Keuka College: The Wolves conclude their home conference weekend on Sunday with a doubleheader against Gallaudet University. The Green and Gold have won four straight against the Bison. First pitch from Kuhl Field is set for 12pm.
