Box Score 2 KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Baseball team split with Norht Eastern Athletic Conference leading Penn St.-Berks in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Kuhl Field at Keuka College.
Penn St.-Berks won the first game 7-6 in 13 innings. Keuka scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh of Game 2, capped by the Dakota Skinner walkoff single, to defeat the Nittany Lions 5-4 and earn the split.
Keuka College (11-9, 3-3 NEAC) will step out of conference play this week. The Green and Gold will play at Pitt.-Bradford on Wednesday and host Elmira College on Thursday.
Game 1
Keuka College and Penn St.-Berks was scoreless through the first three innings on Sunday. Berks pushed across a pair of runs in the fourth, but Keuka answered. Brett Fenton singled home a run and Skinner reached on a fielder's choice for an RBI, tying the game at 2-2.
The Nittany Lions added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead. Keuka got one back on Fenton's second RBI single of the afternoon.
Trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the eighth, Fenton brought in a run on a groundout, bringing Dakota Skinner to the plate with two outs and runners on second and third. The sophomore doubled to score both runners and tie the game at 6-6.
Penn St.-Berks had a one-out triple in the top of the ninth. Skinner made a diving stop at third base and threw the runner out at first for the second out. Pitcher Bryan Johnsen got the next batter to fly out to strand the threat.
Johnsen pitched a total of nine innings of relief on Sunday, allowing seven hits and striking out four.
The Nittany Lions would bring home a run in the top of the 13th. Keuka put a runner on second with no outs in the bottom of the frame, but they would hit into a line drive double play to end the threat as Penn St.-Berks won 7-6.
The 13 inning game marked the second longest in program history. The record was set on April 27, 2014 when Keuka College and Gallaudet University played 14 innings.
Game 2
The Green and Gold got on the board first as John Rizzo singled home Ben Payton for the 1-0 lead after two.
Keuka College grew their lead to 3-1 after four innings, but Penn St.-Berks scored three in the fifth to go ahead 4-3.
Keuka College put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh. Billy McDermott led the inning off with a walk and was bunted to second. McDermott scored, tying the game, on a throwing error by Berks when Dave Nuzzo chopped a ball to third. He advanced to second on the error and was pinch ran for by Cameron Reid. Tyler Krowiak walked and after a strikeout, Ben Payton had an infield single to load the bases with two outs. Dakota Skinner came to the plate and singled to right field to score Reid, giving Keuka the 5-4 walkoff victory.
