Big Second Half Run Lifts Women's Lax

Seniors Jennifer Burt (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) and Kaycee Maguire (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) each scored three goals, as did sophomore Sydney Forshay (Clifton Springs, N.Y./Midlakes) to lift the Keuka College women's lacrosse team to a 14-10 win over Kalamazoo (Mich.) College Wednesday afternoon.

Forshay also added an assist, while junior Samantha Staino (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) scored two goals in the win for the Wolfpack (3-0), who trailed 6-5 early in the second half before going on a 7-1 run to pull away.

Sophomores Taylor Willsey (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) and Morgan Bruno (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse) each pumped in a goal with an assist as the Green and Gold remained undefeated on the year.

Maguire also had 4 groundballs, won 3 draw controls and caused 3 turnovers, while Burt scooped up 4 groundballs to go with 2 draw controls and 2 caused turnovers.

Senior Olivia Hudson (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) chipped in with three groundballs and three caused turnovers to go with her one goal for Keuka, which outshot Kalamazoo (2-2) 28-20.

Sophomore Kayla Robinson (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) made a career-high eight saves in the win.

Sophomore Maura Gosson (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) won 4 draw controls and also had 2 groundballs with 2 caused turnovers in the win.

Kalamazoo scored twice in the opening 5:40 and held the Wolfpack scoreless for the first 13:10 in taking a 2-0 lead.

Burt responded with back-to-back goals, and Maguire and Forshay added goals as the Green and Gold seized a 4-2 lead with 11:33 remaining in the opening half.

Kalamazoo tacked on two goals to knot the score at four, but Hudson scored on a free position shot with 5:03 remaining, and the Wolfpack took a 5-4 lead into halftime.

The Hornets led 6-5 on a goal from Anika Sproull 1:12 into the second half, but Keuka responded with a 7-1 run over the next 22:26 to take control.

Forshay scored twice, Staino added two goals, and Maguire, Burt and Willsey each added tallies to put Keuka up 12-7 with 6:09 remaining.

Cecilia DiFranco scored to trim the lead to 12-8, but Maguire found the back of the net for a 13-8 lead with 4:07 remaining.

Kalamazoo scored the next two goals to claw within 13-10, but Forshay fed Bruno for the clinching goal with 1:11 remaining to send the Green and Gold to the win.

Keuka travels to Lancaster Bible College at 2 p.m. Friday for a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) matchup. The Green and Gold have claimed five of the last six NEAC postseason titles.

The Wolfpack, who went 16-3 and set a school record for single-season wins in 2014, have earned a berth in the NCAA Division III tournament in each of the last two seasons.
