KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Lacrosse team lost on Saturday afternoon to SUNY Poly 13-8 in an Empire 8 Conference game at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
Jessica Miller and
Liz Spin each recorded hat tricks with three goals for Keuka College (2-4, 0-1 Empire 8).
Lainie Forde added a pair of goals for the Wolves.
SUNY Poly 13 vs. Keuka College 8
SUNY Poly struck first, capitalizing on an early Keuka turnover to take a 1-0 lead, but the Wolves settled in behind strong saves from
Lauren Vitello and began to find their rhythm offensively.
Jessica Miller got Keuka on the board midway through the quarter, and after Poly answered on a free-position opportunity, the Wolves responded again late as
Liz Spin finished a feed from
Rylie Pratt to tie the game at 2-2. However, Poly won the ensuing draw and quickly converted, taking a 3-2 lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter remained tight and physical, with both teams trading possessions and defensive stops. Poly extended their lead to 4-2 on a man-up goal, but Keuka responded with momentum.
Lainie Forde cut the deficit to one midway through the quarter, and after several defensive stands and a near miss off the post, Forde struck again in the final minute to tie the game at 4-4 heading into halftime.
Out of the break, SUNY Poly seized control. After Keuka earned the opening draw, Poly quickly flipped possession and scored to regain the lead. That goal sparked a decisive run as Poly capitalized on multiple Keuka turnovers and player-up opportunities, stringing together four straight goals. Despite strong efforts in net by Vitello, the Wolves were unable to slow the surge as the Wildcats built a 10-4 advantage entering the fourth.
Keuka showed fight in the final quarter, opening with a free-position goal from Spin. After Poly answered,
Jessica Miller ignited a late push with a goal off the draw, and Keuka continued to apply pressure. Goals from Miller and Spin cut the deficit to 11-8 with just over six minutes remaining, making it a game again. However, Poly responded with composure, controlling possession and adding a pair of late goals to seal the 13-8 decision.
