Women's Lax Completes Weekend Sweep

Box Score

Heading into the 2013 season, Keuka College women's lacrosse coach Kelly Lickert knew her offense featured ample goal scorers, and during this weekend's wins over Lancaster Bible College and Wilson College, the Storm showcased their offensive balance.

The Green and Gold (4-2, 2-0 NEAC) saw 15 different student-athletes score goals during Sunday's 20-1 win over Wilson College, meaning over the course of the two weekend wins, every student-athlete on the Storm recorded at least one goal.

On Sunday, Keuka was led by junior Maggie Bonafede (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili), who scored three goals with four assists, and classmate Taylor Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder), who added three goals in the win.

It was Smith's fourth game with three or more goals, and the fourth time Bonafede has recorded five or more points in a game this year.

Sophomore Jennifer Burt (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) and freshman Samantha Staino (Brockport, NY/Brockport) each added two goals while sophomore Kaycee Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) recorded one goal and three assists to power Keuka to its highest goal total of the year.

It was the most goals the Green and Gold have scored in a game since a 23-3 trouncing of the College of St. Elizabeth April 10, 2010.

Senior Courtney French (Massena, NY/Massena), sophomore Olivia Hudson (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) and freshman Angela Smith (Stewartsville, NJ/Stewartsville) finished with one goal and one assist for the Storm.

Rounding out the goal scorers with one tally apiece were: senior Sam Layton (Painted Post, NY/Corning West), juniors Caroline Arancio (Clinton, NY/Clinton) and Christine Dedes (Shortsville, NY/Red Jacket) and sophomores Maggie Mercurio (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), Anna Patton (Newark, NY/Newark) and Ashley Swarts (Arkport, NY/Arkport).

Smith won five draw controls for Keuka, followed by three draw controls each from Hudson and Burt. Burt and Hudson also scooped up four groundballs apiece as the Storm controlled the tempo from the opening whistle.

Senior Molly Hogan (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) allowed one goal and made two saves for the win.

Keuka returns home to play the College of St. Elizabeth at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Penn State-Abington at 1 p.m. Sunday as the Storm embark on a stretch with five of the next six games at home. Both the St. Elizabeth and Abington games will take place at Penn Yan Academy.
