Wolves Plate 26 Runs in Sweep of Medaille

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team opened their New York schedule in a major way, sweeping Medaille College on Thursday afternoon.

Keuka College (5-6) showed an excellent mix of offense and pitching against the Mavericks. The Wolves took game one 18-2 and then held Medaille to one run in the second game, winning the nightcap 8-1.

The Wolves wasted no time taking the lead on Thursday. Keuka College sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the first inning. Keuka plated six runs on five hits. Brady Booher and Jimmy Griffin each had two-run hits in the inning. RJ Murphy and Nick Boyle each added RBI singles as the Wolves took the lead.

The Green and Gold repeated the feat in the third inning. The Wolves sent 10 batters to the plate again and scored six runs on five hits. Keuka had two runs scored on passed balls and two more on an error. Matt Vaccaro and Nick Brown each had RBI hits as Keuka led 12-0.

Keuka pushed the lead to 13 in the fourth, but Medaille hit a solo home run to get the run back in the bottom of the inning. Then each time hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Leading 14-2, Keuka added runs in the seventh. Tyler Lewandowski had a two-run single. Anthony Laurinitis and Ethan Drinon then had RBI singles to round out Keuka's scoring as the Wolves took game one 18-2.

Lead Wolf: Ryan Seales had three at-bats for the Wolves in game one and delivered three extra-base hits. The senior had two doubles and a triple against the Mavericks.

The Wolves once again took the lead in the top of the first inning. Matt Vaccaro led off the game with a walk. He then moved all around the bases on multiple passed balls and wild pitches during the next batter. Later, Aaron Simons singled to right to score Nick Brown for the 2-0 lead.

Brown would later lead off the third with a double and then score on an error to the 3-0 advantage. Medaille got three straight hits with two outs in the third inning to get one back, but Anthony Laurinitis got a strikeout to end the threat.

Keuka would take advantage of opportunities presented by Medaille. The Wolves scored three runs in the fourth on errors. Nick Brown had a sacrifice fly in the sixth, and Keuka plated another run on an error in the seventh as the Wolves defeated the Mavericks 8-1.

Lead Wolf: The offense provided the runs and Anthony Laurinitis did the rest on the mound. The freshman pitched a complete game, allowing just six hits and striking out eight to get his first collegiate victory.

KC Notes:

  • The Wolves improve to 24-9 all-time against Medaille College. Keuka College is 11-2 playing at Medaille and have won their last nine games on the road against the Mavericks
  • Along with Seales, Nick Boyle had a three-hit game for the Wolves in game one
  • On the mound, Nic Carbone got the start and struck out three over a career-best 4.1 innings to earn his first career win
  • Cade Dick pitched 2.2 innings of hitless baseball to close out game one
  • The RBI singles by Laurinitis and Drinion in the first game were the first hits of their collegiate careers
  • Nick Brown accounted for half of Keuka's runs in game two. The senior scored three runs and drove one in as well
  • The game one victory for Keuka was the largest win in the 33-game series with Medaille

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will begin their second season in the Empire 8 Conference this weekend. Keuka College will open on the road against Elmira College on Saturday before hosting the Soaring Eagles on Sunday. Due to field conditions, Saturday's games will be played at Corning Community College while Sunday's will be played at Finger Lakes Community College.
