Keuka College Baseball Places Five on Academic All-District Team

L-R: Ian Ruhmel, Alex Evans, Derek Novicki, Hunter Corkran, Evan Cuba
KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team placed five student-athletes on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District list this season.

Senior Derek Novicki returned to the list for the third time in his career. He becomes just the second Keuka College Baseball player to achieve the honor three times.

Alex Evans and Ian Ruhmel each repeated as Academic All-District, earning the honor for a second time. Debutant honorees this season were Evan Cuba and Hunter Corkran.

Senior Derek Novicki ended his career on a high note for the Green and Gold. He had a career-high and team-leading 46 hits, including 11 doubles, two triples, and a big grand slam in the Empire 8 Tournament. He was second on the team in RBIs and runs scored. Novicki graduated in May with a degree in Applied Mathematics and Finance and has received multiple Empire 8 President's List selections over his career.

Alex Evans led the Wolves with 27 runs scored and ranked third on the team with 30 hits on the season. He also got on base a lot for Keuka College, working a team-high 24 walks, tied for second-most in a season in program history. A management major, Evans has earned multiple Empire 8's President's List selections over his collegiate career.

Ian Ruhmel was in the starting lineup for all but one game this year for the Wolves. The speedy outfielder posted a perfect fielding percentage with 120 putouts and four assists. He becomes the fifth qualifying player to have a perfect fielding percentage in program history. He led Keuka College with nine stolen bases on the year. Ruhmel is a Political Science/History major at Keuka.

Evan Cuba made an instant impact to the Keuka College lineup after transferring in from Corning Community College. The junior was second on the team in hitting with a .381 average and 40 hits. He led the Wolves with three triples, three home runs, and 30 runs batted in. Two of Cuba's home runs came in a single game in the Empire 8 Tournament. He earned Third Team All-Empire 8 as an outfielder. Cuba is majoring in Adolescent Social Studies Education at Keuka College.

Sophomore Hunter Corkran appeared in 10 games for the Wolves on the mound, making eight starts. He logged 35 innings for the Green and Gold with 17 strikeouts. He got the win going five innings and allowing just four hits and one run at Utica University in April. He then set a season-high with four strikeouts against the Pioneers in the Empire 8 Tournament. A Management major, Corkran has maintained a 3.98 grade point average over his first two years of college, earning Empire 8 President's List in every semester.

To be eligible for Academic-All District, the student-athlete must have at least a sophomore standing and carry a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 while playing in at least 90% of the team's games, starting two-thirds of them, or pitching in at least 35 innings or making 17 appearances.
