Box Score 2 ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Keuka College baseball team (5-14-1, 5-14-1E8) lost the first game to Elmira College and then ended the second game early due to rain in a tie on Sunday May 9, 2021 in an Empire Eight matchup.
Elmira College 4 vs. Keuka College 2 – (Game one)
Elmira College got on the board first in the first inning adding four runs to their score.
The Wolves answered back in the top of the second. Leading off was Dave Verrett reached first on a dropped fly ball down the left line and advanced to second. Following was RJ Murphy reached first on an error. Josh Tyron sac bunted the runners up a base to be in scoring position. Freshman Matt Vaccaro singled to second base and scoring is Verrett from third. Nick Brown singled through the right side and scoring is Murphy.
The Wolves would try to take the lead in the seventh inning putting runners on first and second but Elmira College got out of the inning winning the game 4-2.
Keuka College 7 vs. Elmira College 7 – (Game two, 8 inning)
Keuka College would get things started in the second game. Nick Brown reached base on a walk and advanced to third from Ryan Seales single through the right side. They would load the bases with another walk from Tyler Broderick. Brown would score on a fielder's choice from Verrett who hit it to the short stop to throw out Broderick at second. The Soaring eagles would than balk to score Seales before getting out of the innings.
Vaccaro singled to center field in the top of the second and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brady Booher grounded out to the third baseman but advancing to third is Vaccaro. Tryon worked the count and walked. Tryon would steal second on a failed pickoff attempt and stealing home is Vaccaro making the score 3-0.
Elmira would answer back in the bottom of the second inning adding five runs to their score taking the lead 5-3.
In the top of the fourth inning the Wolves answered back with a single form Murphy and a walk from Vaccaro. Tryon singled to left center and Murphy scored. Maxwell Yale reached on a fielder's choice and scoring is Vaccaro making the score tied 5-5.
In the top of the sixth inning Dylan Richards singled to right field and Vaccaro walked. Richards scored on a wild pitch and Vaccaro advanced to third on the wild pitch and then scored on a throwing error taking the lead 7-5.
Elmira College responded adding two more runs to their score tying the game in the bottom of the seventh inning 7-7. The game would be called going into the ninth inning due to the rain. The game would end in a tie at 7-7.
KC Notes:
- Keuka College is now 5-3-1 all-time against Elmira College. They are the third team to have a tie with the baseball team in school history.
- Matt Vaccaro had three of the seven runs for the team.
- Spencer Brown had eight strikeouts today for the Wolves setting a new career-high.
- The Wolves stole four bases today, two from Josh Tryon, and one each from Ryan Seals and Matt Vaccaro.
