Keuka College Baseball Outlasts Elmira College

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team defeated Elmira College 11-10 on Thursday in a non-conference game at Kuhl Field.

Keuka College (12-12) was led by starting pitcher Ryan Lawrence. The senior went eight innings and struck out seven batters, allowing just one earned run. Sean Sheets had a big day at the plate with three hits and two RBIs for the Wolves.

Keuka College 11 vs. Elmira College 10

The Soaring Eagles took an early lead over the Wolves, plating four runs in the top of the first inning. Keuka College had a response in the bottom of the inning. The Wolves led the inning off with two walks and a batter hit by the pitch. Tyler Krowiak had a two-run single. Tyler Freedman and Anthony Mashewske followed that with an RBI singles of their own as Keuka College tied the game at 4-4. An RBI groundout ended the inning with Keuka College leading 5-4.

The Wolves added to their lead with two more runs in the second. Following a run by the Soaring Eagles in the third inning, Sean Sheets and Dakota Skinner had RBI singles to make it 9-5 Keuka College.

Keuka College capped their scoring with a John Rizzo sacrifice fly in the fifth and an RBI single by Sean Sheets in the sixth. Elmira College attempted a late comeback, scoring four runs in the ninth inning. Adam Pankowski came in for Keuka. He faced one batter and got one out to earn his first career save as Keuka College defeated Elmira College 11-10.

  • Ryan Lawrence set a new career-high with eight innings pitched
  • Lawrence now has 68 strikeouts in his career, moving into the top ten in school history
  • Pankowski earned the sixth save of the season for the Wolves. That ties the 2014 season for second most in program history
  • Dan Bamann was hit by the pitch in his first two plate appearances. He sits in second on the career list at Keuka, being hit by the pitch 25 times

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves return to North Eastern Athletic Conference play this weekend. Keuka College will travel to SUNY Poly on Saturday and then go to SUNY Cobleskill on Sunday.
