Box Score 2 KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Baseball team defeated Utica College in Game 1 of the doubleheader 8-7 in nine innings on a walkoff single by Jake Redding.
The second game between Keuka College (15-13-1) and Utica also went extra innings. It was called following the ninth inning due to darkness as a 5-5 tie.
Keuka will take to the road this weekend for a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheaders. The Green and Gold will play at SUNY Poly on Saturday and at Penn College on Sunday.
Game 1
The Pioneers scored the first run of the game in the second inning, but Keuka took the lead in the bottom of the frame. Robert LaRue singled home John Rizzo to tie the game. Then with the bases loaded, Brett Fenton hit a line drive off the Pioneers pitcher. All runners would be safe and Keuka was ahead 2-1.
The Green and Gold added a run in the fifth and four insurance runs in sixth. The big hit in the inning came from Tyler Krowiak who hit a two-run single up the middle to make it 7-1.
The insurance runs were needed, however, as the Pioneers plated six runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game and send it to extra innings.
With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Dave Nuzzo singled. He was pinch ran for by Alex Cerrone. Cerrone went first to third on a single down the right field line by Justin Torres. That brought Jake Redding to the plate. The sophomore singled home Cerrone for the 8-7 walkoff victory.
Game 2
Keuka scored the opening run of the game in the bottom of the first as Kyle Dailey plated Dakota Skinner with a double to right centerfield.
Utica answered with two runs in the top of the third to take the lead. The Pioneers added runs in the fourth and fifth to lead 4-1 going to the bottom of the fifth.
Joe Marasco led off the inning with an infield single. Torres followed that with a single and they were bunted into scoring position by John Rizzo. Pinch hitter Ben Payton scored Marasco on a sacrifice fly and Brett Fenton singled home Torres to narrow the margin to one run, 4-3.
After Utica College added a run in the top of the seventh, Justin Torres walked to lead off the bottom of the inning. Jake Redding singled and they were bunted to second and third by Ben Payton. Brett Fenton singled to centerfield to score both runners and tie the game.
The teams played two extra innings of baseball before it became too dark to continue. The game was called following nine innings with a 5-5 tie the final score.
