Box Score 2 KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Baseball team swept Hilbert College on Wednesday afternoon at Kuhl Field. The Green and Gold won the opening game 5-2 and took the second 6-1.
Keuka College (10-6) will now prepare for a big North Eastern Athletic Conference weekend. Keuka will host Penn St.-Abington on Saturday and Penn St.-Berks on Sunday.
Game 1
Hilbert got out to a fast 2-0 lead over Keuka College, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first. It took until the fifth inning for Keuka to answer. Robert LaRue stole second base with one out and scored on a single by Brett Fenton. Fenton moved to second with two outs and scored on a single by John Rizzo to tie the game at 2-2.
The Green and Gold took the lead the next inning. With the bases loaded a two outs, Fenton would be hit by the pitch to force home the go-ahead run. Tyler Freedman came up next and doubled to the left centerfield gap. A pair of runs came home before a third was thrown out at the plate to end the inning with Keuka leading 5-2.
Dakota Skinner was the pitcher of record, earning his first win of the season. Thomas Fowler struck out a pair in the seventh to earn his second save of the season.
Game 2
Keuka took a quick lead in Game 2 as Jake Redding walked, stole second, stole third, and scored on a throwing error by the catcher for the 1-0 advantage.
After Hilbert tied the game in the second, Keuka got back on the board in the third. Keuka loaded the bases with no outs and scored a pair of runs on a Hawk error. Dakota Skinner followed it with an RBI single to give the Green and Gold a 4-1 lead.
Keuka College added two more runs in the fourth on their way to the 6-1 victory.
Starting pitcher Kyle Michaud struck out a pair in his 1.2 innings of work. That gave the senior 108 career strikeouts, the most in school history.
The Keuka College bullpen pitched 5.1 innings of no-hit relief to secure the win.
