Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Keuka College Baseball team split a doubleheader against New York foe Hamilton College on Friday afternoon in Florida.
The Green and Gold won in the opening game 2-1, but fell in a rain-shortened game 2, 3-0.
Keuka College (4-3) will next face nationally-ranked St. Thomas University on Saturday in a single nine-inning game in Florida.
Game 1
For the sixth game in a row, Keuka got on the board first. Dave Nuzzo led the second inning off with a single. He moved to third on a bunt and groundout. Nuzzo was brought home on a two-out single by Joe Marasco for the 1-0 lead. Hamilton tied the game with a two-out RBI of their own in third.
The Continentals loaded the bases with one out in the fifth, but starting pitcher James Matthews got a pair of flyouts to strand the runners. Hamilton put a pair of runners on in the bottom of the sixth as well. Keuka turned to their bullpen and Thomas Fowler got the strikeout to end the inning.
Joe Marasco led the top of the seventh off with a single to left field. He moved to second on a bunt and was pinch ran for by Cameron Reid. Reid moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a two-out single by Jake Redding to give Keuka the 2-1 lead. Hamilton got a pair of runners on with one out, but Fowler got a strikeout and pop out to secure the 2-1 victory.
Sophomore Joe Marasco went 3-3 at the plate for Keuka. James Matthews went 5.2 innings on the mound, allowing seven hits and one run, while striking out three.
Game 2
Hamilton came out and scored first in the top of the first inning with an RBI double. They added a run in the second and a solo home run in the fourth gave the Continentals a 3-0 advantage. Dan Bamann and Robert LaRue had the only two hits of the game for Keuka. Following becoming an official game after the fifth inning, they skies opened up and the umpires called the game due to rain.
Bryan Johnsen made the first of his career on the mound for Keuka. The sophomore went three innings and allowed four hits and three runs. Kevin Franz pitched two innings of one-hit relief with a pair of strikeouts.
