Baseball Splits DH With Lancaster Bible

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Keuka College's baseball team rallied for an 8-7 win in 10 innings of game one of Saturday's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader with Lancaster Bible College.

But the Wolfpack split the doubleheader after the Chargers scored six runs in the top of the seventh to take the nightcap, 9-2.

Keuka (7-18, 2-4 NEAC) rallied from a five-run deficit to outlast Lancaster Bible (9-14, 3-5) in the opener.

Senior Conner Anderson (Missoula, Mont./Sentinel) and freshman Alec Bowie (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) each had two-run singles, and senior Dan Smith (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Forks) added an RBI double during a five-run seventh as Keuka evened the score.

Senior Jon Borchert (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) led off with a single, junior Brett Fenton (Troy, N.Y./Hudson Valley CC) walked, and junior Kyle Dailey (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) singled to load the bases.

Anderson drove in two runs with an RBI single up the middle, then Dailey scored on Smith's RBI double to right center field to trim the deficit to 5-3.

With runners on second and third, Bowie evened the score with his RBI single to right center field.

The Chargers answered with two runs in the top of the eighth, but a resilient Green and Gold squad fought back and pushed across the tying runs in the bottom of the inning.

Fenton led off with a single, and scored on Dailey's RBI triple to the gap in right center field. Dailey then scored on a throwing error, tying the score at 7 heading to the ninth.

In the 10th, Fenton led off with a double, Dailey was hit by a pitch, and they moved up to second and third on a sacrifice bunt from senior Tommy Drumm (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego). Smith was intentionally walked to load the bases, and freshman John Rizzo (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) reached on an error to plate Fenton with the winning run.

Freshman Kevin Franz (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) earned his first collegiate win, tossing 2 2/3 innings of effective relief, allowing only one hit with one strikeout.

Fenton finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two walks, Dailey was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, and senior Jake Burachalk (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton) was 2-for-5 in the opener.

The nightcap was a pitchers' duel as senior Keith Ryan (Fort Myers, Fla./Ave Marie University) tossed four scoreless innings to start the game.

Burachalk put the Green and Gold up 1-0 on a third-inning RBI single through the left side of the infield, but the Chargers pulled even on Nate Long's fourth-inning RBI double to left field.

The Chargers tacked on two runs in the sixth, but Borchert led off the bottom of the inning with a double, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on a balk to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Lancaster Bible salvaged the split after scoring six runs on six hits in the top of the seventh.

Ryan allowed six runs (three earned) with four strikeouts and one walk over six innings.

Keuka welcomes NEAC rival Gallaudet (D.C.) University to campus for a doubleheaders Sunday afternoon. First pitch is at 12 p.m.
