Box Score Twelve different student-athletes drove in a run to power the Keuka College baseball team to a 22-8 win over North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) rival Penn State-Abington Sunday afternoon, giving the Storm the series win against the Nittany Lions.
Senior Dylan Campbell (Rockville, MD/Walter Johnson) was 2-for-3 with three RBI while junior Jake Burachalk (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) smacked a two-run home run to spark the Green and Gold (9-9, 4-4 NEAC) at Kuhl Field in Keuka Park, N.Y.
Senior Dave Goetz (Kirkwood, NY/Windsor), junior Conner Anderson (Missoula, MT/Sentinel) and sophomore Tom Fowler (Batavia, NY/Elba) each plated two runs for the Storm.
Senior Gavin Corbin (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) and junior Jon Borchert (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) each drove in a run and scored twice as Keuka College's bats compiled 20 hits and scored 22 runs, the second-highest scoring game this year in taking two of three from the Nittany Lions (8-15-1, 2-7).
Besides Campbell, five different student-athletes had two hits: senior Justyn Schuck (Hammondsport, NY/Hammondsport) was 2-for-5 with two runs scored; junior Dylan Thomas (Kent, Ohio/Theodore Roosevelt) was 2-for-2 with an RBI; junior Tommy Drumm (Oswego, NY/Oswego) was 2-for-4 with an RBI; junior Dan Smith (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and sophomore Billy McDermott (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Sophomore Kyle Michaud (Elmira Heights, NY/Thomas A. Edison) improved to 3-1 after allowing three earned runs with six strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings pitched.
Junior Keith Ryan (Fort Myers, Fla./Ave Marie University) and senior Brandon Jacobs (Walworth, NY/Gananda) combined to toss 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts and only one walk.
Burachalk crushed a two-run home run over the left field fence in the first for a 2-0 lead, and Campbell added a bases-clearing double to highlight a five-run fifth as the Storm took a 7-0 lead into the third.
Abington scraped across a run in the top of the third, but the Green and Gold scored twice in the bottom of the inning for a 9-1 lead.
After Abington pulled within 9-3 in the top of the fifth, Goetz hit a two-run double to left-center field to spark a three-run inning as the Storm led 12-3 going into the sixth.
The Green and Gold added nine runs in the seventh as Anderson had a two-run single, Fowler had a two-run double, Drumm had an RBI single and freshman Tristan Mills (Sodus, NY/Sodus) added an RBI double in the win.
The Storm travel to SUNYIT for a 4 p.m. NEAC clash Tuesday afternoon before traveling to Hilbert College for a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.
