The Keuka College baseball team was swept for the first time in 2014, dropping a non-conference doubleheader to Wilkes (Pa.) University by scores of 14-2 and 11-6 Thursday afternoon in Edwardsville, Pa.

The Storm (5-4) were held to just five hits in the opener and dropped the second game despite getting a home run from junior Jake Burachalk (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) and a two-run double from junior Jon Borchert (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington).

Burachalk was 1-for-2 run scored and senior Kyle McVannan (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) was 1-for-2 with an RBI in the first game.

Junior Dan Smith (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) was 1-for-3 with a run scored while freshman Robert Larue (Skillman, NJ/Montgomery) added an RBI for Keuka, which allowed six first-inning runs and trailed 14-1 after four innings.

Wilkes (8-6) pounded out 14 hits and drew seven walks in the opener.

Senior Justyn Schuck (Hammondsport, NY/Hammondsport) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Burachalk scored twice and McVannan and senior Hector Mitaynes (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) each plated runs in the nightcap.

Schuck led off the first with a triple and scored on Burachalk's sacrifice fly as the Green and Gold took a 1-0 lead, but Wilkes answered with two runs in the bottom of the second to lead 2-1.

Keuka retook the lead with a three-run third inning. Schuck led off with a double, Burachalk walked and both runners scored on Borchert's double to right-center field.

Borchert advanced to third on a single from senior Gavin Corbin (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott), and Borchert scored on an error on a ball hit by McVannan in the infield.

The Storm took their 4-2 lead into the bottom of the fourth before Wilkes scored four runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and two more in the sixth to complete the sweep.

The Storm continue their season-opening road trip with their North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener at 8 a.m. Friday morning against Lancaster Bible (Pa.) College.

The Green and Gold's home opener is against Southern Vermont April 9.
