Men's Lax Wins 5th Straight

Junior Connor Latimer (Whitby, ON/Genesee Community College) scored four goals with four assists and sophomores Anthony Luppino (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan), Cory Gray (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) and James Voigt (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) each scored three goals as Keuka College's men's lacrosse team defeated SUNY Cobleskill 20-5 Saturday afternoon.

The Storm (5-1, 3-0 NEAC) won their fifth straight game, thanks to a suffocating defense that held Cobleskill (2-4, 0-3) scoreless for the first 15:31.

Keuka, which blanked Hilbert College for the last 53 minutes of Wednesday night's 14-1 run, extended its scoreless streak to 68 minutes and 22 seconds until Rob Neubert scored 31 seconds into the second quarter.

Senior Mike Crumlish (Hilton, NY/Hilton) finished with two goals and two assists, sophomore Randy Gyergyek (Elma, NY/Iroquois) added two goals and juniors Mike Donals (Livonia, NY/Livonia) and Kaisch Wheeler (Phoenix, NY/Baldwinsville) and sophomore Derek Pfeiffer (Lee Center, NY/Rome Free Academy) each scored as the Green and Gold set a season-high with 20 goals.

Luppino scored all three of his goals in the first 10 minutes, while Latimer scored twice and Voigt and Crumlish scored as the Storm led 7-0 after one quarter.

After Neubert's goal, the Storm strung together another scoreless streak of 19:39 minutes bridging the second and third quarters. Gray scored all three of his goals during a span of 2:15 to extend the lead to 10-1, and Latimer scored twice and Crumlish and Voigt added goals as the Storm took a 14-1 halftime lead.

Luppino, Pfeiffer and freshman Matt Beebe (LaFayette, NY/LaFayette) each added two assists for Keuka, which enjoyed a 43-25 edge in shots, including 30-3 in the first half.

Junior Scott Miller (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) scooped up a team-leading seven groundballs, while Wheeler added six groundballs and junior Zachary Koczent (Geneva, NY/Geneva) had five groundballs for Keuka, which scooped up 46 groundballs.

Miller and junior Justin Strain (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) each caused two turnovers as Keuka forced Cobleskill into 26 turnovers.

Luppino, Gray, Latimer and Pfeiffer each recorded man-up goals as the Storm went 4-for-5 with the man advantage. Wheeler's goal with 32 seconds left came on a man-down situation and closed out the scoring.

Sophomore Eric Saltrelli (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) made two first-half saves for the win. Classmate Scott Thielman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) finished with five saves while freshman Dominic Camblin (Newark, NY/Newark) stopped all three shots he faced for Keuka.

The Green and Gold host Medaille College at 7 p.m. Wednesday night before facing Houghton College on Parents' and Senior Day, 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13.
