Baseball Swept at Penn State Abington

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

GAME ONE BOXSCORE GAME TWO BOXSCORE
The Keuka College baseball team saw its two-game winning streak snapped Saturday afternoon, dropping both games of a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader to Penn State-Abington.

The Storm (2-13, 1-5 NEAC) lost the first game, 7-0 as Keuka managed just six hits. Junior Justyn Schuck (Hammondsport, NY/Hammondsport) went 2-for-4 and senior Keith Prestano (Queens, NY/Xaverian) and freshman Tom Fowler (Batavia, NY/Elba) each hit doubles, but the Storm stranded nine baserunners.

Abington took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the first, tacked on four runs in the second on a two-run double and a two-run single, and added runs in the fourth and fifth to seize control.

In the top of the sixth, the Storm loaded the bases with two outs but came away empty. Freshman Billy McDermott (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) singled, Fowler doubled and sophomore Tommy Drumm (Oswego, NY/Oswego) walked to load the bases. But Sean McNeill got a strikeout to end the threat.

In a back-and-forth second game, the Storm took an early 1-0 lead when Prestano laced an RBI double that plated Schuck, who led off the game with a single. Prestano got to third base, but was stranded when Fowler popped up to first to end the inning.

Abington (14-15, 5-1 NEAC) tied the score in the second on Pat Moran's RBI single, but the Green and Gold reclaimed the lead in the fourth. Prestano led off with another double, his third of the doubleheader, and scored when sophomore Jon Borchert (Upper Arlington, OH/Upper Arlington) smacked an RBI double into left-center field.

The Storm seemed poised for a big inning, loading the bases with no outs, but Abington's Dan Hill used a fly out and a pair of strikeouts to end the threat.

Hill hit an RBI single to tie the game at two in the bottom of the fourth, and Dustin Kology hit an RBI single for a 3-2 Abington lead in the fifth.

The score remained that way until the seventh. Once again, the Storm loaded the bases, and junior Gavin Corbin (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) singled to plate classmate Kyle McVannan (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott). But a pair of Keuka baserunners were thrown out on the play, and a strikeout ended the inning with the score still tied.

After the first two Abington batters singled in the bottom of the eighth, a sacrifice bunt gave Abington runners on second and third with one out. Following an intentional walk to load the bases, Bill Parave hit a pinch-hit single to right-center field to end the game and complete the sweep.

Sophomore Zach Nobles (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) pitched a complete-game, nine-hitter, allowing four runs with three strikeouts to take the hard-luck loss.

Keuka is on the road for a NEAC doubleheader with Penn State-Berks at 1 p.m. Sunday.
