Box Score

The Keuka College baseball team used the long ball to pick up its second straight win, defeating Cairn (Pa.) University 10-6 Thursday afternoon in Langhorne, Pa.

Sophomore Jon Borchert (Upper Arlington, OH/Upper Arlington) went 2-for-5 with two home runs, a grand slam and a two-run shot, and freshman Tom Fowler (Batavia, NY/Elba) smacked a two-run homer in the fourth to give the Storm (2-11) the lead for good, 6-4.

Junior Greg Starks (Wellsville, NY/Andover) made the lead stand, limiting Cairn (5-19) to three runs on six hits over five innings of effective relief for his first-career collegiate win.

Juniors Kyle McVannan (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) and Jeremy Pyszczynski (Alden, NY/St. Mary's) closed out the game with a scoreless 1 1/3 innings as Keuka won its second straight after dropping the first 11 games of the season.

Neither team scored in the first two innings. With one out in the top of the third, sophomores Tommy Drumm (Oswego, NY/Owego) and Dylan Thomas (Kent, OH/Theodore Roosevelt) each drew walks and junior Gavin Corbin (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) singled to load the bases for Borchert.

With two outs, Borchert blasted a ball over the fence in dead center field for a 4-0 lead.

Cairn responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, but the tie was short-lived. In the top of the fourth, sophomore Dylan Campbell (Bethesda, MD/Walter Johnson) walked, stole second and scored when Fowler hit a towering two-run home run over the left-center field fence for a 6-4 lead.

Cairn pulled within 8-6 heading into the top of the ninth, but Borchert smacked a two-run homer to finish off the scoring. It was his fourth home run of the year and he now has a team-most four home runs with 16 RBI.

Senior Keith Prestano (Queens, NY/Xaverian) went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, Fowler was 1-for-3 with the two-run home run, Drumm was 1-for-2 with a run scored and Thomas was 0-for-1 but drew three walks, scored two runs and added a stolen base for the Green and Gold.

Keuka hits the road to play NEAC rivals Penn State-Abington on Saturday and Penn State-Berks on Sunday. Both doubleheaders begin at 1 p.m.
