Box Score 2 ELMIRA, N.Y. — The Keuka College Softball team split their Empire 8 doubleheader at Elmira College on Monday afternoon.
Keuka College (2-16, 1-7 Empire 8) fell in the opener 12-4 but rebounded in game two to defeat the Soaring Eagles 4-2 in 10 innings.
Elmira College 12 vs. Keuka College 4 – 6 innings
The Wolves got out to an early lead over the Soaring Eagles out of the gate with three runs in the top of the first. The Green and Gold got those three without the benefit of a hit. Helena Hill led off with a walk and went to third when Abby Eising reached on an error. Hill would come home on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Cole. Elmira College would then walk the bases loaded with two outs, and the Wolves got two of those runs in on another error by the Soaring Eagles as Keuka held a 3-0 lead.
The Green and Gold added to their lead in the second as Kelsey Mohl had an RBI single to score Helena Hill to push the lead to 4-0.
However, the game would flip in the fourth. Elmira plated five of their six runs in the inning with two outs to take the lead against Keuka. The Soaring Eagles added a run in the fifth and five more in the sixth. Keuka managed one hit over the final two innings as Elmira ended the game in the bottom of the sixth, winning 12-4.
Lead Wolves: Keuka College had only three hits in game one. Jordan Cole and Kelsey Mohl each had a hit and drove in a run. Jordyn Fargo added a single and scored a run for Keuka.
Keuka College 4 at Elmira College 2 – 10 innings
Back-to-back hits with two outs gave Elmira College the lead in the bottom of the first. Keuka would tie it up in the third. Joan Carroll led the third off with a walk and moved to second on a bunt. She then scored on a single by Morgan Mudge to tie the game at 1-1.
Kelsey Mohl was in the circle for the Wolves and held the Soaring Eagles at bay. After Keuka tied the game, Mohl allowed one hit in the bottom of the third but held Elmira hitless in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.
The Wolves took the lead in the seventh inning. Emily VanDelinder led the inning off with a single to center. She then moved to second, third, and scored on three different wild pitches to give the Wolves a 2-1 lead.
The game would go to the bottom of the seventh. Elmira got a leadoff single and would load the bases with one out. An opportunity arose to secure the victory on a game-ending double play, but the batter beat it out at first. A run scored on the play and the game would go to extra innings.
The two teams combined for only one hit in the eighth and ninth innings combined as the game remained tied going to the tenth. The tenth inning introduced the tiebreak rule with a runner starting on second. Following a walk, Morgan Mudge hit a flyball in the infield. The umpires ruled it an infield fly, calling out Mudge, but the ball dropped and the runners were able to advance to second and third. Joan Carroll then scored from third on an RBI groundout by Helena Hill. On the next play, Shauna Pimm scored on a wild pitch as the Wolves took a 10-2 lead.
In the bottom of the tenth, Elmira College was able to get the tying run on first base, but Kelsey Mohl got a strikeout to end the game, giving Keuka College the 4-2 victory.
Lead Wolf: Kelsey Mohl went the distance pitching for the Wolves. She went all 10 innings allowing just six hits and striking out four. Mohl also contributed offensively, adding two hits in the game.

- Keuka College is now 10-20 all-time against Elmira College, however, the Wolves have won three of their last four games against the Soaring Eagles
- Both of Keuka's wins this season have come in extra innings. The Wolves have won their last four that have gone past seven innings
- The 10-inning pitching performance by Kelsey Mohl tied for the second-most innings pitched by a Keuka College pitcher in a game in program history
- It was also the first career pitching victory for Mohl
- Helena Hill had her career-best 10-game hitting streak snapped on Monday
