Women's Lacrosse Doubles-Up Cazenovia 16-8

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Lacrosse team took a strong first quarter and carried that to a 16-8 victory at Cazenovia College on Thursday afternoon.

Julia Bauder led Keuka College (2-1) with three goals and four assists. Bauder was one of four Wolves to post a hat-trick on Wednesday. Joining Bauder with three goals was Grace Morse, Trinity Burton, and Madeline Greene.

The Wolves had a big start to the game on Thursday. Julia Bauder opened the scoring for Keuka. The sophomore then set up Brooke Bonetti. Grace Morse scored less than 40 seconds after Bonetti to give the Wolves a 3-0 advantage midway through the first. Morse and Bauder added their second goals in the final minutes as the Wolves led 5-0 after one.

Cazenovia scored two goals in the first 50 seconds of the second quarter, but the Wolves stopped the run. Madeline Greene scored, and that was followed by goals from Sydney Carr and Grace Morse. The Wolves scored the final three goals of the half to lead 8-2 at the break.

The Green and Gold continued their run into the third quarter. Keuka College got goals from Madeline Greene, Maddie Fassinger, and Brooke Bonetti to push the run to six. Cazenovia stopped the run with a pair of goals to close the third, but Keuka remained ahead 11-4 going into the final quarter.

The game opened up in the fourth as the two teams combined for nine goals. As in the previous two quarters, Keuka College outscored Cazenovia by one goal. The Wildcats scored first to cut the margin to six, but that would be as close as it got. The two teams traded goals as Keuka saw the game out for the 16-8 victory.

  • Keuka College improves to 16-5 all-time against Cazenovia College and 8-3 at the home of the Wildcats
  • Julia Bauder had a career game in her homecoming. The Cazenovia, N.Y. native had a career-high in goals, assists, and points. Seven total points are the most by any Keuka College player this season
  • The Wolves have enjoyed their home at Keuka College in most sports. Thursday was the first road win for any Keuka College team since the Women's Soccer team won at Houghton College on October 16
  • Maddie Fassinger scored her first career goal in the third quarter
  • Annaliese Black made eight saves in goal for the Wolves
  • Keuka College was a perfect 11-11 on their clear attempts. The defense and press from the Wolves caused issues for the Wildcats. Cazenovia College converted less than 50% of their clear attempts, going 11-23

Up Next for Keuka College: Keuka College will return home next Wednesday as Keuka College hosts D'Youville College. The Wolves and Spartans will square off at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex at 4 p.m.
