Keuka College 2 vs. Washington & Jefferson College 1 - OT
The visiting Presidents started on the front foot on a rainy Saturday at Keuka College. The Green and Gold allowed only four shots in the quarter, all of which were wide or blocked, as the game was scoreless after 15 minutes.
Keuka College had a nice opportunity five minutes into the second as Alyssa Muszak drove into the Presidents' end, but a call by the officials ended the possession for the Wolves just left of the goal. A majority of the second was played in the middle of the team with teams battling for possession. Keuka's best chance came in the final minute as Muszak had the ball in the circle to the right of the goal. She passed it across the face of the goal to the left post. A scrum ensued for possession and the Presidents were able to clear as the game went to halftime scoreless.
Midway through the third, Washington & Jefferson pulled ahead with the first goal of the game. Keuka responded with an increase in offensive pressure. Alyssa Muszak hit a driving pass forward and found Kirsten Billings. The freshman's effort got past the keeper on the short side but was cleared off the line with a defensive save by the Presidents. The Wolves would not be deterred. With 24 seconds left in the quarter, Keuka took advantage of a corner opportunity. The Mills had the ball on the edge of the circle, she centered it to McKenzie Hoyt just inside the circle straightaway. Hoyt let a powerful shot go that went through the traffic and in to tie the game at 1-1.
Keuka did a good job in the fourth of withstanding the Presidents' pressure and turned it into the counterattack. The Wolves pressured the defense of W&J but were unable to put the final shot together. Megan Makowski made four saves in goal in the fourth and the game sat at 1-1 at the end of regulation.
Washington & Jefferson pressured early in overtime. In total, they had four corner attempts in the extra frame. The game looked to go to the Presidents midway through overtime as they scored off of a corner, however it was ruled that the initial insert did not clear the circle and was disallowed. The Wolves used the counter in overtime as Makaela Mills drove down the field. She entered the circle and fed it to her left to Skylar Gilmore. Gilmore combined a spin move with a sweeping backhanded shot. The ball stayed inside the left post and found the back of the cage as Keuka College won 2-1 in overtime.
