Whitney Tyler No-Hitter Anchors Keuka College Sweep

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — Sophomore Whitney Tyler threw a five-inning no-hitter to complete the North Eastern Athletic Conference sweep of SUNY Poly for the Keuka College Softball team on Saturday at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Keuka College (5-7, 2-0 NEAC) won both ends of the doubleheader 8-0 in five innings against SUNY Poly.

Keuka College 8 vs. SUNY Poly 0 – Game One, 5 innings

Keuka College got their first run across in the second inning as the Wolves took advantage of a pair of SUNY Poly throwing errors on a sacrifice bunt. Jessie Hammers later doubled the lead with an RBI single as the Wolves led 2-0.

Hammers provided another run with an RBI single in the fourth.

The Green and Gold added to their lead and ended the game in the fifth inning. The Wolves took a 4-0 lead on a throwing error by the Wildcats. Janessa Vaadi added an RBI single and a throwing error provided two more runs as Keuka led 7-0. The game ended as Ann Stull walked with the bases loaded to give Keuka College the 8-0 victory in five innings.

Lead Wolf: Colleen Mooney earned her first win of the season for Keuka College. The junior allowed just three hits while striking out four in pitching seventh shutout of her career.

Keuka College 8 vs. SUNY Poly 0 – Game Two, 5 innings

The Wolves wasted no time in taking the lead in game two against the Wildcats. Keuka College loaded the bases in the first inning and Janessa Vaadi emptied them with a three-run double to give the Wolves the lead.

Keuka College grew their lead to 7-0 in the third. A run came home on a fielder's choice hit by Vaadi. Alexa Brown followed that with an RBI single. Following an error that scored a run, Danielle Bosch walked with the bases loaded to force in the seventh run of the game for Keuka College.

In the fifth inning, Keuka College loaded the bases again and Jordan Cole singled to left to score Whitney Tyler to end the game in five innings with Keuka winning 8-0.

Lead Wolf: Whitney Tyler threw the 11th no-hitter in program history, 13th counting a pair of perfect games. It was the second time that Tyler did not allow a hit in a game as she pitched a perfect game against Morrisville State last season. The sophomore struck out five batters in the win.

  • Keuka College won their 11th straight game against SUNY Poly, improving to 40-7 all-time against the Wildcats
  • Jessie Hammers finished the doubleheader with three stolen bases, becoming the second player in program history to amass 50 stolen bases in a career
  • Colleen Mooney moved into fourth in the Keuka College career wins list with 28
  • Along with throwing a no-hitter in game two, Whitney Tyler had the first hit of her college career with a fifth inning single
  • Janessa Vaadi set a new career-high with four runs batted in in game two on Saturday

Up Next for Keuka College: Sunday's doubleheader against SUNY Cobleskill has been postponed due to the forecasted weather. The next scheduled game for Keuka College will be a home doubleheader against Alfred University on Monday, April 1.
