PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Keuka College Softball team earned their first win of the season as a part of a doubleheader split at St. John Fisher College on Thursday afternoon.

Keuka College (1-5) lost a tight game in the opener to the Cardinals 3-2. The Wolves then topped the hosts in game two by the score of 7-2.

St. John Fisher College 3 vs. Keuka College 2 – Game One

The home team struck first in the second inning as they took advantage of a Keuka College error to pull ahead 1-0. In the next inning, the Cardinals extended their lead to 3-0 following a two-run home run.

Keuka College had a response in the fourth inning. The Wolves took advantage of a Cardinal error for a base runner. Then freshman Jordan Cole hit a ball over the left centerfield fence for her first career home run, making it a 3-2 game.

However, after the Cole home run, Keuka College would only manage one base runner the rest of the game as they fell to St. John Fisher 3-2.

Lead Wolf: Jessie Hammers helped set the table for the Wolves. The leadoff hitter had a pair of hits and stole a base in game one.

Keuka College 7 at St. John Fisher College 2 – Game Two

St. John Fisher would once again take an early lead over the Wolves as they scored on an error in both the first and second innings for a 2-0 lead.

The fourth inning would prove fruitful for the Wolves once again as Janessa Vaadi doubled down the left field line to score a pair of runs to tie the game.

In the fifth inning, Jessie Hammers led it off with a single. Hayley Gorges bunted her over and reached base herself on a Fisher error. After Gorges stole second, Brittany Vergason hit a hard single to right to score Hammers and Gorges and give the Wolves a 4-2 lead. Jordan Cole followed with a double and Verason scored on a sacrifice fly by Alexa Brown. Keuka College would add to the lead on RBI singles by Samantha Cook and Danielle Bosch as Keuka led 7-2.

The rest would be in the hands of pitcher Whitney Tyler. The sophomore did not allow an earned run and struck out a career-high eight as she went the distance. Keuka College earned the split, defeating St. John Fisher College 7-2 in game two.

Lead Wolf: Whitney Tyler pitched the Wolves to their first victory of the season. She scattered six hits over seven innings. Tyler allowed just two unearned runs and struck out a career-best eight batters in the win.

• The win was the first for Keuka College against St. John Fisher College in softball since the 2009 season, snapping an 11-game losing and 15-game winless streak
• Keuka College is now 7-39-1 all-time against the Cardinals
