Wolves Comeback to Beat Wildcats 15-14

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Lacrosse team defeated Cazenovia College 15-14 on Saturday in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Keuka College (5-2, 1-0 NEAC) was led by Kasey Olsen with three goals. Mark Shattuck had a team-high five points with two goals and three assists. Kasey Gallina, Craig Gerhardt, Seth Bush, and Tyler Andrews each added two-goal games for the Wolves.

Keuka College 15 vs. Cazenovia College 14

The Wolves stuck first, but Cazenovia controlled possession for most of the opening quarter. The Wildcats scored a pair and led 2-1 after the first.

Keuka took the lead back with a pair of goals to open the second to take the lead. After Cazenovia tied it at 3-3, Kasey Olsen and Tyler Andrews scored 15 seconds apart to make it 5-3 Keuka. The Wildcats got one back but Brandon Clark scored his first career goal in the final minute to give the Wolves a 6-4 halftime lead.

The two teams alternated goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. The Wildcats would net three straight to take a 9-8 lead with a minute and a half left in the quarter. Long-stick Tyler Andrews recorded his second goal of the game with a minute remaining as the game went to the final quarter tied 9-9.

Cazenovia College built a two-goal lead, 12-10, halfway through the fourth quarter. Kasey Olsen started a four-goal run as Keuka came roaring back. Just 18 seconds after Olsen cut the margin to one, Kasey Gallina tied the game with a goal. Craig Gerhardt and Seth Bush each added goals as the Wolves took a 14-12 lead. Cazenovia cut it to one with a goal on the man-up, but Gallina answered with his second goal of the game. Cazenovia once again cut the lead to one with 19 seconds left. The Wildcats won the ensuing faceoff and raced down the field. Ryan Mavretish made a big save in goal for Keuka College with eight seconds left as the Wolves defeated the Wildcats 15-14 on Saturday.

  • Keuka College avenged their 2017 loss to Cazenovia and improve to 17-1 all-time against the Wildcats, including 8-0 at home
  • The Wolves have won their last six straight North Eastern Athletic Conference openers
  • Ryan Mavretish made 12 saves for Keuka College. The sophomore now has 188 saves in his career, passing Jacob Wood '17 for seventh all-time
  • It was the first multi-goal game of Tyler Andrews' career
  • Harold Pallone tied his career-high with nine caused turnovers for Keuka and led the Wolves with 10 groundballs in the game

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves take to the road on Wednesday for a key North Eastern Athletic Conference matchup. Keuka College will play at Morrisville State College on April 11. In the history of the North Eastern Athletic Conference, Keuka College and Morrisville State are the only two schools to ever win the conference championship in men's lacrosse.
