Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HOUGHTON, N.Y. — Keuka College sophomore Colleen Mooney threw a no-hitter in Keuka College's 2-0 win at Houghton College in Game 1 of a doubleheader.

Keuka College (1-5) fell in the nightcap to the Highlanders 6-0.

The Wolves took an early lead on the Highlanders as Jessie Hammers led off the game with a double to left field. She moved to third and scored on a Mickenzie Palmer sacrifice fly.

Keuka doubled the lead in the second as Alexa Brown singled down the right field line to score Shannon Johnson, making it 2-0. That lead would hold as the Wolves defeated the Highlanders 2-0 on Wednesday.

Lead Wolf: The rest of the game was about Mooney. The reigning North Eastern Athletic Conference North Division Pitcher of the Year was fantastic. She struck out five batters. The only base runner was a leadoff walk in the second inning. That runner was thrown out attempting to steal as Mooney would face the minimum 21 batters.

Houghton College 6 vs. Keuka College 0

Keuka College had a chance to score first as they loaded the bases in the top of the first, but was not able to push a run across. It would be the Highlanders who struck first in Game 2. Houghton got a two-out single in the first to take a 1-0 lead. They added to that in the third with a pair of unearned runs.

Their lead grew to 6-0 in the fourth with three runs scored all with two outs. The Wolves would be unable to put a run on the board in the nightcap as they fell to Houghton College 6-0 to split the doubleheader.

Lead Wolf: Senior Mickenzie Palmer led the Keuka College offense with a pair of hits in Game 2 against Houghton College.

KC Notes:

  • Wednesday marked the first ever games between Keuka College and Houghton College in softball
  • The no-hitter was the first of Mooney's career and the 11th in Keuka College history. It was the first seven-inning no-hitter since Liz Warren '16 no-hit Morrisville State on April 11, 2014
  • Katelyn Warren singled in Game 2 for her 103rd career hit, passing Jessica VanScoter '10 for ninth most in school history

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves open North Eastern Athletic Conference play this weekend. Keuka College will play at Wells College in a doubleheader on Friday afternoon. Keuka College will then travel to Cazenovia to face the Wildcats on Saturday. Cazenovia was the lone NEAC team to defeat Keuka College last year as the Wolves posted a 23-1 record in conference play in 2017.
