Keuka College Softball Drops Pair in Virginia

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Keuka College Softball team lost a pair of games on Saturday in Virginia at the Virginia Wesleyan College Beach Bash.

Keuka College (0-4) lost to St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) 5-3 and then fell to Shenandoah University 12-3.

Jessie Hammers led the Green and Gold with a combined five hits and a pair of stolen bases. Katelyn Warren, Alexa Brown, and Maddie Dupuis each had two hits on the day for Keuka.

After a pair of scoreless innings to open the game, the Bears jumped on the Wolves for five runs in the bottom of the third. Keuka College quickly responded in the top of the fourth with RBI singles by Alexa Brown and Maddie Dupuis to cut the lead to 5-2.

Janessa Vaadi pitched 3.2 innings of one-hit shutout relief as the Wolves attempted to make a comeback. The Green and Gold got one back in the fifth as they converted a leadoff double by Jessie Hammers into a run with Mickenzie Palmer getting the RBI. The Wolves would bring the tying run to the plate in each of the last two innings, but they would be unable to score as they fell to St. Joseph's 5-3.

Lead Wolf: Jessie Hammers had three hits for Keuka College against the Bears, including a double. It was her fifth game of three or more hits in her career.

Shenandoah University 12 vs. Keuka College 3

The Hornets struck first with two runs in the first inning and one in the second. The Wolves got one back in the third on a wild pitch and would tie the game in the third on a two-run error by Shenandoah. The tie did not last long as the Hornets plated six runs in the fifth to take control of the game. They added one in the sixth and two in the seventh on their way to the 12-3 victory.

Lead Wolf: Jessie Hammers again led the way for the Green and Gold. She accounted for two of Keuka's six hits in the game and stole a base for the Wolves.

Up Next for Keuka College: After a two-week layoff, Keuka College will return to the field for their first game in New York on Saturday, March 24. The Green and Gold will travel to Alfred University to square off with the Saxons in a doubleheader. Keuka will then open their home and conference schedule that Sunday with a doubleheader against SUNY Poly and the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
