Wolves Defeat Wells 21-7 to Finish Regular Season

AURORA, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Lacrosse team concluded the 2017 regular season with a 21-7 North Eastern Athletic Conference victory at Wells College on Wednesday afternoon.

Craig Gerhardt had a career-high nine points on Wednesday for Keuka College (8-5, 6-2). The freshman scored five goals and had four assists as well. Mark Shattuck and Andrew Burns each added three goals and an assist in the win. Also with multi-goal games for the Wolves was Marco Carney, Connor Tifft, and Dan Blaessig, each scoring two.

Keuka College 21 at Wells College 7

The Wolves jumped out to an early lead over the Express. Craig Gerhardt and Mark Shattuck both scored for the 2-0 advantage. After a goal by Wells College, Keuka scored seven straight to close the quarter leading 9-1. Keuka College outscored Wells 5-0 in the second quarter to lead 14-1 at the half. The run continued in the third as Keuka topped their streak at 14 unanswered goals before the Express got back on the board. Keuka led 18-4 going to the final quarter. The Wolves continued onto the 21-7 conference victory.

Controlling the Ball: Keuka College controlled possession for most of the game thanks to their play at the faceoff spot and attacking loose balls. The Wolves won 24 of 32 faceoffs on the day and gathered 48 groundballs in the win.

  • Keuka College remains unbeaten against Wells College. The Wolves have won all 10 meetings with the Express
  • The 24 faceoff wins by Keuka College is tied for fifth most in a single game in school history
  • Leading the faceoffs was Matt Mahalick. The Senior won 13 in the game, pushing his season total to 127, fourth most in program history
  • Mahalick also led the way with groundballs. He passed Zachary Koczent '14 for the all-time record with 229 groundballs in his career
  • Mahalick also set the single season groundball record with 85 this year
  • Craig Gerhardt has 39 goals this season, tying him for sixth most in a season in school history. Gerhardt also has 62 total points, fifth most in a season at Keuka College
