Big Second Half Lifts Keuka College over SUNY Poly

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Lacrosse team used a 10-5 second half to defeat SUNY Poly 14-12 at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex on Sunday.

Keuka College (2-2, 1-0 NEAC) was led by Morgan Bruno with four goals and three assist for seven total points. Freshman Vera Freda added to the tally with four goals and Kendall Neuberger added a pair of goals and two assist. Abigail Wood and Elizabeth Sherman also added two goals apiece for the Wolves.

Keuka College 14 vs. SUNY Poly 12

SUNY Poly found the back of the net minute into the game but the Wolves bounced back and scored just over a minute later to tie it up 1-1. The Wildcats answered with three goals to take a 4-1 lead. However freshmen Vera Freda scored three straight to tie the game at 4-4. SUNY Poly scored the final three goals of the first half to lead 7-4 at halftime. The Wolves continued to push the offense in the second half. The Green and Gold scored the first four goals of the frame to take an 8-7 lead. After the Wildcats took the lead back, the Wolves scored four unanswered to lead 12-9 with 10 minutes left to play. SUNY Poly had an answer and scored three straight to tie the game at 12-12. The Wolves would pull it out in the end. Abigail Wood scored off of a free position and Vera Freda added an insurance goal as the Wolves continued onto the 14-12 victory.

Good in Goal: Sophomore Ally Thayer played well in goal with 10 saves, earning the victory. Thayer held the Wildcats to just 3-7 on free position shots and the sophomore also collected three groundballs for the Wolves.

  • The Wolves are a perfect 4-0 against the Wildcats at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex
  • Alizabeth Knout had a strong defensive game for the Wolves. The sophomore had a career-high five groundballs and three caused turnovers
  • Morgan Bruno moved into 7th place for career points at Keuka College with 138
  • Bruno also broke a tie with Samantha Staino '16 and Sydney Forshay, moving into sixth place with 14 free position goals in her career

Coming up for Keuka College: The Wolves step out of NEAC play on Tuesday for a makeup game from the weather issues earlier in the season. Keuka College will host Houghton College on April 4 at 4pm at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex. It will be the first ever meeting between the Highlanders and the Wolves.
