Wolves Earn NEAC Sweep over Morrisville State

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Softball team improved to 10-0 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference with a doubleheader sweep over Morrisville State on Friday at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Keuka College (12-6, 10-0 NEAC) took the opening game 6-1 and won the nightcap 11-6.

The Wolves got for hits on the day from junior Katelyn Warren and senior Tally McDonald. Warren drove in four runs and had a triple on Friday. McDonald also added a triple in Game 2 for the Wolves. Adding three hits on the day for Keuka College was Jessie Hammers, Brittany Vergason, Samantha Blum, and Shannon Johnson.

Keuka College 6 vs. Morrisville State 1

Keuka College waited until the second inning to score the opening run of the game as the Wolves plated a run on a groundout. The Green and Gold increased the lead to three as the Wolves scored two runs as Brittany Vergason had an RBI single and Mickenzie Palmer scored one on a sacrifice fly. The Wolves opened it up with three more in the fourth inning. Although Morrisville got a run in the sixth, starting pitcher Colleen Mooney held them there. The freshman struck out four and allowed only five hits as Keuka College went on to win the opener 6-1.

Lead Wolves: Both Jessie Hammers and Katelyn Warren had a pair of hits for the Wolves in Game 1. Hammers had a single and a triple and scored a run while Warren had two singles, scored a run, and drove in a run for Keuka College.

Keuka College 11 vs. Morrisville State 6

The Mustangs scored first in Game 2 as Morrisville State plated a pair of runs in the top of the first. Keuka College got one back in the first and then took the lead in the third. Katelyn Warren tripled to right centerfield to score a pair of runs for the Green and Gold. Warren scored two batters later to give Keuka a 4-2 lead. In the fourth, Samantha Blum hit a two-run double. Warren scored her on an RBI single. Warren then scored on an RBI triple by freshman Alexa Brown as Keuka College opened an 8-2 lead. Morrisville State scored three in the sixth but Keuka got that back on an RBI single by Maddie Dupuis and a two-run triple by Tally McDonald as Keuka College continued onto the 11-6 victory.

Lead Wolves: Six different Wolves had a multi-hit game against the Mustangs. Five of the six also had an extra-base hit in the game as Keuka College had three doubles and three triples in the win.

KC Notes:

  • Keuka College improves to 24-3 against Morrisville State. The Wolves have won the last three meetings
  • Samantha Blum broke a tie and moved into sole possession of eighth place in the Keuka College Record Books with 17 career doubles
  • Katelyn Warren passed Terin Brown '12 for ninth all-time in career runs batted in. Warren now has 60 for her career
  • Freshman Colleen Mooney has won her last five starts pitching for Keuka College

Coming up for Keuka College: The Wolves remain at home on Saturday as they host Cazenovia College. The doubleheader between the Wildcats and the Wolves has been moved up to a 9am start due to the forecasted weather.
