Wolves Top Spartans for First Win of 2017

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Lacrosse team earned their first victory of the 2017 season on Thursday, defeating D'Youville College 19-7 at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Keuka College (1-2) was led by Vera Freda with five goals and an assist for six total points. Kendall Neuberger and Morgan Bruno each had five-point games for the Wolves. Neuberger had three goals and two assists while Bruno had two goals and three assists. Setting new career-highs with hat tricks was Vanessa Tsarevich and Abigail Wood.

Keuka College 19 vs. D'Youville College 7

After five scoreless minutes to start the game, Keuka College got a pair of goals within nine seconds of each other to take an early 2-0 lead. The Wolves would extend the lead to 7-0 before the Spartans got on the board. Keuka College took a 13-3 lead into halftime. The Wolves kept pushing the offense in the second half, but D'Youville had responses. Twice in the half the Spartans responded to two Keuka College goals by scoring two of their own. The Wolves would never let the margin dip below 10, however, as Keuka College continued onto the 19-7 victory

Free is Good: Keuka College took advantage of their free position shots on Thursday. The Wolves entered the day 0-3 in free position opportunities. The Wolves went 6-8 on Thursday.

KC Notes:

  • It was the first meeting between the two schools as D'Youville is in their first season of a varsity program
  • The six free position goals is tied for third most in a game in Keuka College history
  • Morgan Bruno moved into a tie for seventh in the Keuka College record books for points in a career with 131 and Laura Dougherty '11
  • The first half goal by Amanda Morley was the first of her career. She also added her first career assist in the game

Coming up for Keuka College: The Wolves will open North Eastern Athletic Conference play on Sunday by hosting the defending NEAC Champions SUNY Poly. The Wildcats defeated the Wolves 17-7 last season. It was the first time in school history that Keuka College lost to SUNY Poly.
