Bruno's Career Game Sparks Women's Lax

Sophomore Morgan Bruno (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse) scored a career-high seven points on four goals with three assists as the Keuka College women's lacrosse team remained perfect in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play with a 17-3 win over Wells College Wednesday in Ithaca, N.Y.

Bruno was one of three student-athletes to score four goals for the Wolfpack (5-2, 3-0 NEAC). Joining Bruno was senior Kaycee Maguire (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) and junior Samantha Staino (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport).

Maguire also caused 8 turnovers, collected 7 groundballs and won 3 draw controls, while sophomore Sydney Forshay (Clifton Springs, N.Y./Midlakes) added three goals with one assist, and classmate Taylor Willsey (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) had one goal with two assists against the Express (2-4, 2-2).

Senior Jennifer Burt (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) added a goal with four groundballs, while classmate Olivia Hudson (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) caused four turnovers and collected four groundballs in the win.

Sophomore Kayla Robinson (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) made three saves to improve to 4-0.

The Wolfpack defense, led by Willsey, seniors Maggie Mercurio (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) and Anna Patton (Newark, N.Y./Newark) and sophomore Samantha Peacock (Phelps, N.Y./Midlakes) held Wells scoreless for the first 14 minutes.

Maguire and Staino scored to give Keuka a 2-0 lead, but Nadia Bennacer pulled the Express within 2-1 on a goal with 15:49 remaining in the opening half.

Keuka scored the next six goals as Bruno and Staino scored twice, while Maguire and Burt also scored as the Green and Gold seized an 8-1 lead. Andrea Gould (two goals) scored with one second remaining in the first as Keuka took an 8-2 lead into halftime.

The Wolfpack opened the second half holding the Express scoreless for the first 28:42. Keuka's lead swelled to 15-2 as Forshay scored three goals, Maguire scored twice and Bruno and Staino added goals during the run to power the Green and Gold.

The Wolfpack travel to Cazenovia College for a 4 p.m. NEAC clash Wednesday, April 15.
