Box Score Sophomore Jamie Kuppel (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored a career-high five goals and senior Cory Gray (Seneca Castle, N.Y./Midlakes) matched his career-high with six goals to spark the Keuka College men's lacrosse team to a 20-7 win over Bryn Athyn (Pa.) College Tuesday afternoon at Penn Yan Academy.
Kuppel and Gray each added an assist as the Wolfpack (4-2, 4-0 NEAC) won their fourth straight contest while matching the team's season-high for goals scored.
Junior Tyler Skowronski (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) added three goals with one assist, while senior Derek Pfeiffer (Lee Center, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) and junior Brendan King (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) each had two goals with one assist for the Green and Gold.
Senior James Voigt (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) added one goal with two assists as Keuka used a 12-0 run bridging the second, third and fourth quarters to remain undefeated in NEAC play.
Sophomore Matt Mahalick (LaFayette, N.Y./LaFayette) won 88.9 percent of his faceoffs (24 of 27) — both career-highs — as Keuka won 83.3 percent of the faceoffs (25 of 30) against the Lions (5-3, 1-2).
Senior Eric Saltrelli (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) made three saves in 58:46 of action to improve to 3-2.
Mahalick scooped up a season-high 12 groundballs, while senior Isaiah Nalls (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) collected seven groundballs and Saltrelli had six groundballs as Keuka enjoyed a 53-24 edge in groundballs.
Junior Tom Lupo (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) caused three turnovers, while senior Marc Sacco (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) and junior Anthony Luppino (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) each caused two turnovers in the win. Keuka's aggressive defense forced 20 turnovers.
Skowronski found Kind for a goal 2:04 into the contest, but Bryn Athyn pulled even on Ryan Landels' unassisted tally with 9:28 remaining in the first.
Gray then pumped in three goals while Kuppel and Pfeiffer each added goals as the Wolfpack closed out the opening quarter on a 5-0 run to lead 6-1 heading into the second.
Bryn Athyn responded by scoring the first four goals of the second while blanking the Green and Gold for the first 11 minutes in pulling within 6-5.
But Voigt and Kuppel each scored unassisted goals in the final four minutes of the opening half to lift Keuka to an 8-5 halftime lead.
A stout Wolfpack defense — led by Sacco, Lupo and sophomore Dustin Springer (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) — held the Lions scoreless for 27:09 bridging the second, third and fourth quarters.
Gray, Kuppel and Skowronski each scored three goals during the 12-0 run, while King, Luppino and Voigt added goals as Keuka led 18-5 on Skowronski's tally with 10:27 remaining in the fourth.
Landels, Nolan Frame and Travis McCurdy each scored two goals for Bryn Athyn, which was outshot 54-17.
Keuka hosts NEAC foe SUNY Cobleskill at 2 p.m. Saturday on Senior Day.
