Box Score Senior Cory Gray (Seneca Castle, N.Y./Midlakes) and freshman Zach Dempsey (Cleveland, N.Y./Central Square) each set career-highs for points in a game as the Keuka College men's lacrosse team defeated Alfred State 22-1 on a windy Thursday afternoon in Keuka Park, N.Y.
Gray scored three goals with a career-high six assists, while Dempsey added two goals with a career-high five assists as Keuka (8-3) scored its most goals this year.
Junior Matt Beebe (Syracuse, N.Y./LaFayette) added six points (one goal, five assists), senior James Voigt (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) added five points (four goals, one assist), and classmate Derek Pfeiffer (Lee Center, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) added four goals in the win.
Voigt continues to climb the school record books, and has 170 career points on 107 goals with 63 assists. He is second in career goals and points, and is tied for second in assists.
Juniors Brendan King (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) and Clayton Vaughn (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) each added two goals for the Wolfpack.
Also scoring one goal were: senior Jacob Bedosky (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott), junior Ryan Enright (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili), and freshman Andrew Burns (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and Patrick Giardino (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy).
Sophomore Matt Mahalick (LaFayette, N.Y./LaFayette) won 73.3 percent of his faceoffs (11 of 15) and collected six groundballs, while junior Nick Barbay (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse) also collected six groundballs for the Green and Gold.
Senior Isaiah Nalls (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) and junior Jake Altman (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) each had five groundballs as Keuka enjoyed a 54-31 edge in groundballs against Alfred State (3-13).
Sophomore Jacob Wood (Marietta, N.Y./Auburn) made nine saves and allowed only one goal in 52:51 of action to improve to 2-0.
Sophomore Dustin Springer (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) had three groundballs with three caused turnovers, while Barbay, Giardino, senior Matt Kealy (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson) and junior Anthony Luppino (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) each caused two turnovers as Keuka improved to 5-0 at home.
Gray, Beebe, Voigt and Pfeiffer did all of their scoring in the first half as the Wolfpack built up a 17-0 lead.
Alfred State was held scoreless for the first 45:58 until Patrick Matkoski scored 58 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Keuka earned the No. 2 seed for the upcoming North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) postseason tournament, and the Green and Gold will host a semifinal on Wednesday, April 29. Keuka is the four-time defending NEAC postseason champion.
