Box Score Sophomore Jamie Kuppel (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored three goals, but the Keuka College men's lacrosse team saw its six-game winning streak snapped during Saturday's 6-4 loss to Morrisville State in Morrisville, N.Y.
Junior Matt Beebe (Syracuse, N.Y./LaFayette) added a goal with an assist, but Keuka (6-3, 6-1 NEAC) suffered its first conference loss since a 12-8 setback to Morrisville State (March 31, 2012), a stretch of 31 straight conference wins.
Senior Cory Gray (Seneca Castle, N.Y./Midlakes) collected six groundballs and had an assist, Beebe had four groundballs, and senior Eric Saltrelli (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) made eight saves in the loss.
The Mustangs (7-5, 6-0) scored the only goal of the opening quarter, and Morrisville's defense held the Wolfpack scoreless for the first 17:54.
Beebe scored an unassisted goal 2:54 into the second to tie the game, but the Mustangs scored the next four goals and led 5-1 on Eliud Evan's man-up goal with 5:48 remaining in the third quarter.
Keuka outscored the Mustangs 3-1 the rest of the way, as Beebe fed Kuppel for a score with 2:06 remaining in the third, the first of three straight tallies from Kuppel.
Kuppel added back-to-back goals 4:13 apart in the fourth to trim the deficit to 5-4 with 2:20 remaining, but Andrew Donoghue put away the game with an unassisted goal with 29 seconds remaining.
The Green and Gold lost despite outshooting the Mustangs 34-24, and enjoying a 26-19 edge in groundballs.
The Wolfpack return home for two clashes to end the regular season. Keuka hosts Hilbert at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the NEAC finale, before Alfred State comes to campus for a 4 p.m. contest Thursday.
With one NEAC game remaining, Keuka sits in second place in the conference, trailing only Morrisville State. The top four teams in the conference qualify for the NEAC postseason tournament, which runs April 29-May 2.
Keuka is the four-time defending NEAC postseason champion.
