Box Score Senior Derek Pfeiffer (Lee Center, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) matched his career-high with six points (five goals, one assist) to power the Keuka College men's lacrosse team to a 16-4 win over SUNY Cobleskill Saturday on Senior Day.
Senior James Voigt (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) moved into sole possession of second place on the Wolfpack's all-time scoring list with his three points (two goals and one assist) as the Wolfpack (5-2, 5-0 NEAC) won their fifth straight.
Voigt, a two-time, first-team All-NEAC selection, now has 160 career points, trailing only Keuka Athletics Hall of Famer Lucas Hopkins (2001-04) on the career points list. Hopkins scored 188 points in his Keuka career.
Sophomore Jamie Kuppel (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) added two goals with an assist, senior Cory Gray (Seneca Castle, N.Y./Midlakes) had one goal with two assists, and classmate Jacob Bedosky (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) recorded two goals in the win.
Sophomore Jacob Hinshaw (Owego, N.Y./Owego) handed out two assists, while Pfeiffer collected a career-high eight groundballs, junior Anthony Luppino (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) scooped up five groundballs, and senior Matt Kealy (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson) and junior Brendan King (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) each collected four groundballs in the win.
Keuka enjoyed a 58-17 edge in shots and a 53-32 edge in groundballs in improving to 8-0 all-time against Cobleskill (3-7, 1-3).
"My emotions on Senior Day were a mix between being excited and being shocked that it was already our turn for Senior Day," Pfeiffer said. "I wasn't expecting to have a career game today, I just went out wanting to get another W in the win column, and to have fun doing it. It's always good to get a win on Senior Day."
Kealy and Luppino each caused four turnovers, while senior Marc Sacco (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) caused three turnovers and had three groundballs in the win.
Sophomore Matt Mahalick (LaFayette, N.Y./LaFayette) won 66.7 percent of faceoffs (6 of 9), while senior Ronald Blaessig (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) scored his first career goal as the Green and Gold remained in first place in the NEAC.
Senior Eric Saltrelli (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) made two saves and allowed two goals in 33:27 to improve to 4-2.
At halftime, Keuka paid tribute to its nine seniors for their hard work and dedication to the
program. The senior class included: Bedosky, Gray, Kealy, Pfeiffer, Sacco, Saltrelli, Voigt and Isaiah Nalls (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield). Those seniors helped Keuka post a 52-13 record with four straight NEAC postseason championships in their time in Keuka Park.
Kuppel fed King for a tally 37 seconds into the contest, and the lead grew to 2-0 when Pfeiffer found Kuppel wide open for a goal 4:37 into the opening stanza.
Luppino found a cutting Gray for a goal with 4:55 remaining as Keuka took a 3-0 lead into the second quarter.
The Wolfpack did not allow a goal for the first 29:40 until Troy Rossi (two goals) scored with 20 seconds remaining before halftime.
Pfeiffer scored four goals while Voigt added two goals as the Wolfpack led 9-0 with 2:07 remaining in the opening half.
Voigt connected with Pfeiffer for a goal 2:15 into the third, and the lead swelled to 11-1 when Gray found Bedosky for a score 48 seconds later.
Rossi countered with a goal 20 seconds later to pull the Tigers within 11-2, but Kuppel and junior Tyler Skowronski (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) each added unassisted tallies as the Green and Gold took a 13-2 lead into the fourth to improve to 3-0 in home games.
Keuka travels to Wells College for a 4 p.m. contest Wednesday before traveling to Morrisville State for a 1 p.m. NEAC contest Saturday afternoon. The Wolfpack knocked off the Mustangs 13-5 to claim the 2014 NEAC postseason championship, Keuka's fourth straight NEAC title.
