Box Score Junior Tyler Skowronski (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) scored a career-high seven points to power the Keuka College men's lacrosse team to a 20-3 win over Medaille College Wednesday evening at Penn Yan Academy.
Skowronski scored a career-high six goals and added an assist, and senior Cory Gray (Seneca Castle, N.Y./Midlakes) added three goals for Keuka (2-2, 2-0 NEAC).
Junior Brendan King (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) added one goal with two assists, while freshman Andrew Burns (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and Zach Dempsey (Cleveland, N.Y./Central Square) each added two goals in the win.
Sophomore Matt Mahalick (LaFayette, N.Y./LaFayette) added two assists with seven groundballs, and he won 70.6 percent of his faceoffs (12 of 17) as the Wolfpack won their second straight conference game after winning 77.8 percent of their faceoffs (21 of 27).
Senior James Voigt (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) and junior Matt Beebe (Syracuse, N.Y./LaFayette) each had one goal with one assist for the Green and Gold.
Senior Eric Saltrelli (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) made three saves in the first half. Sophomore Jacob Wood (Marietta, N.Y./Auburn) made five saves while recording a scoreless second half for the Green and Gold.
Skowronski and King each scored goals in the opening five minutes to stake Keuka to a 2-1 lead. The Mavericks (2-2, 1-1) pulled even on a man-up goal from Julian LaDelia with 6:36 remaining in the first quarter, but the Wolfpack defense clamped down and held Medaille scoreless for the next 14:51 bridging the first and second quarters.
While the Mavericks were held scoreless, Keuka went on a 9-0 run as Gray and Skowronski each scored three goals, and Beebe, Kuppel and Pfeiffer also scored to stake the Wolfpack to an 11-2 lead with 7:28 remaining in the second quarter.
David Groves scored to make it an eight-goal lead, but the Wolfpack did not allow a goal over the final 36:27 to win.
Burns, Dempsey and Skowronski each scored twice, while Voigt, sophomore Ben Rath (Liverpool, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) and freshman Patrick Giardino (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) each added goals to clinch the win for Keuka.
The Wolfpack enjoyed a 56-29 edge in groundballs. Gray scooped up five groundballs, while senior Isaiah Nalls (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) and junior Clayton Vaughn (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) each had four groundballs for Keuka.
Keuka travels to face NEAC foe SUNY Polytechnic at 1 p.m. Saturday before hosting Bryn Athyn (Pa.) College at noon on Tuesday, April 7.
