Gray, Voigt Lead Men's Lacrosse to Win

Senior Cory Gray (Seneca Castle, N.Y./Midlakes) equaled his career high with six goals and added an assist, and classmate James Voigt (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) scored four goals with two assists as the Keuka College men's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the year.

The Wolfpack (1-2, 1-0 NEAC) used a big second half run to knock off Cazenovia College 19-10 Sunday in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener for both schools.

Junior Tyler Skowronski (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) added two goals with three assists, while senior Derek Pfeiffer (Lee Center, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) added two goals with two assists for the Green and Gold.

Sophomore Jamie Kuppel (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) had three goals with an assist, junior Brendan King (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) handed out three assists to go with seven groundballs, while classmate Anthony Luppino (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) added a goal with an assist and collected seven groundballs in the win.

Sophomore Matt Mahalick (LaFayette, N.Y./LaFayette) added a goal with six groundballs and won 65.2 percent of faceoffs (15 of 23), and Skowronski had four groundballs as the Green and Gold enjoyed a 39-17 edge in groundballs.

Sophomore Jacob Wood (Marietta, N.Y./Auburn) made eight saves to earn the win.

Leading 9-7 after Eric Hanover (three goals) scored with one minute remaining in the first half, the Wolfpack clamped down and held the Wildcats (3-3, 1-1) scoreless for 17:31 bridging the second, third and fourth quarters.

Gray, Voigt, Luppino and Kuppel each scored goals during the third to stake the Wolfpack to a 13-7 lead.

Kyle Kingsley scored a man-up goal 1:31 into the fourth to snap the scoreless streak, but Kuppel scored and Gray added back-to-back goals to give Keuka a 16-8 lead with eight minutes remaining.

Hanover's final goal trimmed the lead to 16-9, but Kuppel had a goal and Pfeiffer added back-to-back goals to clinch the win for the Wolfpack, the four-time defending NEAC champions.

Keuka hosts Medaille College at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the 2015 home opener.
