Box Score Junior Tyler Skowronski (Clarence, N.Y/Clarence) scored three goals with an assist, and sophomore Jamie Kuppel (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) added three goals, but the Keuka College men's lacrosse team fell to The College at Brockport 13-12 Saturday afternoon in the Wolfpack's season opener at Brockport, N.Y.
Keuka (0-1) enjoyed leads of 8-3 and 10-4 against the Golden Eagles (1-4), but Brockport used a 7-1 run to tie the game at 11 on Marcus Palvino's tally with 3:42 remaining.
Senior Cory Gray (Seneca Castle, N.Y./Midlakes) put the Wolfpack ahead 12-11 with 3:13 to play on a rebound goal, but Brockport pulled even on a Mark Robinson tally with 41 seconds remaining.
Saltrelli stopped Justin Cook's point-blank shot with 20 seconds left, but Cook netted the game-winner with 8.3 seconds remaining, and Skowronski's shot at the buzzer was saved as Keuka dropped its opener.
Gray finished with two goals, junior Matt Beebe (Syracuse, N.Y./.LaFayette) added two goals with two assists, and classmate Brendan King (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) handed out two assists for the Green and Gold.
Saltrelli made 11 saves for Keuka, which was outshot 46-27 by the Golden Eagles.
The Wolfpack took an early 2-0 lead vs. the Golden Eagles. Skowronski scored the first goal of his Keuka career on a man-up tally just 1:01 into the contest off a feed from Beebe.
Just 24 seconds later, the Green and Gold took a two-goal lead when King found Beebe, who fired in a shot to the near side 1:25 into the first.
Senior James Voigt (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) fired a low shot that beat Brockport goalie Connor Nowak (nine saves) halfway through the first for a 3-0 lead, but the Golden Eagles answered with back-to-back goals to pull within 3-2 early in the second.
Beebe then found Skowronski for a man-up goal halfway through the second, and Skowronski and Kuppel added unassisted goals for a 6-2 lead with 1:55 left in the opening half.
Kuppel added a man-up goal off a feed from Skowronski with 22.5 seconds left before halftime, and Keuka took a 7-3 lead into intermission.
In the third, Beebe, Kuppel and Gray each scored to stake the Wolfpack to a 10-4 lead with 37 seconds remaining in the quarter before Brockport staged its comeback attempt.
The Golden Eagles scored four goals in 52 seconds bridging the third and fourth quarters as Brockport sliced a six-goal deficit down to 10-8 22 seconds into the final stanza.
Senior Derek Pfeiffer (Lee Center, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) stopped the run, scoring an unassisted man-up goal with 10:21 to play to put the Green and Gold up 11-8.
But Brockport scored the next three goals to even the game at 11.
After a missed shot from Voigt, Gray gathered the rebound and stuffed his shot high inside the near corner for a 12-11 Keuka lead with 3:13 left.
Brockport completed the comeback by scoring the final two goals to win its first game of the year.
Keuka returns to action with a 1 p.m. non-conference clash at Alfred University Saturday before hosting Bryn Athyn (March 27) in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener.
