Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Sophomore Ally Muller (Bath, NY/Haverling) clubbed a two-run home run in the first game and freshman Janel Prince (Holley, NY/Elba) had a two-run double in the second game, but the Keuka College softball team was swept by St. John Fisher College Wednesday afternoon in Pittsford, N.Y.
The Storm (1-5) lost the first game, 6-2, and the second game, 8-3.
In the opener, Keuka College and Fisher (10-4) were scoreless through the first two innings, but the Cardinals threatened in the first inning, putting runners on second and third with only one out. Senior Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) got a strikeout and a line out to end the threat.
After a 1-2-3 second inning, Fisher plated a pair of runs on an RBI single and an RBI double to take a 2-0 lead.
The Green and Gold used a two-out rally to knot the score in the top of the fourth. After sophomore Jessica Parmiter (Cortland, NY/Homer) was hit by a pitch, Muller laced a two-run home run over the fence in right field for her first home run of the year, and her second career round-tripper.
Fisher retook the lead on a two-run double, and added two more runs in the inning to take a 6-2 lead into the fifth.
The Storm were held scoreless over the next two innings, but loaded the bases and brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the seventh.
Senior Deliane Lessard (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) led off with a single, freshman Tally McDonald (Romulus, NY/Romulus) reached on an error and the Green and Gold loaded the bases after freshman Alysha Bachman (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse) drew a walk.
Halie Schoff used back-to-back strikeouts and a ground out to escape the threat as the Storm dropped the opener.
In the nightcap, the Storm took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Sophomore Mackenzie Cole (Ogdensburg, NY/Ogdensburg Free Academy) drew a leadoff walk, stole second base and scored on a fielding error by Fisher to stake the Green and Gold to an early lead.
But the Cardinals hit the first of their three home runs in the third as Jessica D'Angelo belted a two-run home run for a 3-1 Cardinals' lead heading to the top of the fourth.
The Storm threatened in the inning, putting runners on first and second with only one out. But Fisher escaped thanks to a strikeout and a pop out to end the inning.
The Cardinals tacked on four runs in the bottom of the inning, but trailing 8-1 entering the sixth, Prince plated a pair of runs on a double to the gap in left-center field. That was as close as the Storm would get, though, as Fisher held on for the doubleheader sweep.
Sophomore Liz Warren (Elmira Heights, NY/Thomas A. Edison) struck out seven and did not issue a walk in the complete-game loss.
Parmiter and Prince had doubles while Lessard, McDonald and freshman Samantha Blum (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) each had singles in the loss.
The Storm hit the road for a NEAC doubleheader with Morrisville State Friday afternoon before hosting Morrisville State Saturday, Cazenovia College Sunday and D'Youville College Monday afternoon.
