Women's Lax Stays Red-Hot, Records Third Shutout

Box Score

The Keuka College women's lacrosse team posted its third shutout of the 2014 season Saturday, blanking North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) rival Medaille College 19-0 at All High Stadium in Buffalo, N.Y.

With the shutout, the Storm (12-2, 8-0 NEAC) remain in control in the race for the NEAC regular-season championship and the right to host the upcoming NEAC postseason championship.

If Keuka College can knock off SUNYIT (6-5, 5-3) Sunday in the conference finale, the Storm would wrap-up the title and would host the four-team NEAC tournament, which would run May 3-4.

The Storm won NEAC's last year and earned the program's first-ever NCAA Division III tournament appearance.

Taking on the Mavericks (8-6, 5-2), senior Taylor Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) scored five goals, classmate Caroline Arancio (Clinton, NY/Clinton) scored four goals and senior Maggie Bonafede (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) poured in three goals with three assists to lead the Storm.

Junior Kaycee Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) scored a season-high four points (three goals, one assist), freshman Sydney Forshay (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) added two goals with two assists and classmate Morgan Bruno (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse) recorded one goal with two assists in the win.

Smith won seven draw controls and Forshay won three draw controls, while Maguire collected five groundballs and Arancio added four groundballs for the Green and Gold.

Senior Korie Fitzgerald (Vestal, NY/Vestal) made four saves for the shutout. The defense was led by Maguire, juniors Olivia Hudson (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) and Anna Patton (Newark, NY/Newark) and freshmen Maura Gosson (Syracuse, NY/Marcellus) and Taylor Willsey (Mexico, NY/Mexico).

Before the game, the Storm did their part to honor the memory of an area women's lacrosse standout who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

Keuka College's student-athletes showed their support for Molly Seifritz, a 2010 graduate of Buffalo State who passed away from a form of tissue cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma March 2, 2013.

The student-athletes on each team sported black "Team Molly" t-shirts during the pregame warm-ups, and both Keuka College and SUNYIT will wear the shirts before Sunday's 1 p.m. clash at SUNYIT.
