Balanced Women's Lax Defeats Alfred

Senior Maggie Bonafede (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) scored eight points on seven assists and one goal and 11 different student-athletes scored a goal as the Keuka College women's lacrosse team defeated Alfred University 19-4 Wednesday afternoon in Alfred, N.Y.

Junior Jennifer Burt (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) scored three goals with an assist, senior Caroline Arancio (Clinton, NY/Clinton) had three goals, as did junior Kaycee Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) as the Storm (4-2) set a season-high for goals scored.

Senior Taylor Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and freshman Morgan Bruno (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) each scored two goals for Keuka.

Freshman Maura Gosson (Syracuse, NY/Marcellus) added a goal and an assist for Keuka, which knocked off Alfred (1-4) of the Empire 8 Conference.

Junior Olivia Hudson (Adams, NY/South Jefferson), sophomore Samantha Staino (Brockport, NY/Brockport) and freshman Sydney Forshay (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) and Taylor Willsey (Mexico, NY/Mexico) each added a goal in the win.

Smith also scooped up three groundballs and caused three turnovers while Bonafede, Forshay, Maguire and junior Maggie Mercurio (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) each had two groundballs as the Storm won their second straight.

Senior Korie Fitzgerald (Vestal, NY/Vestal) made nine saves for the win.

Bruno scored on a free-position shot and Burt and Smith each added tallies as the Storm led 3-0 3:14 into the contest.

Alfred (1-4) responded with two goals in a span of 2:27 before the Storm rattled off 11 unanswered goals to take a 14-2 halftime lead. Bonafede set up six of the Storm's goals in the opening half and produced her second straight game with eight or more points.

Maguire scored three times, Arancio and Burt added two goals while Bruno, Gosso, Hudson and Willsey each added goals during the run.

The Keuka scoring run extended to 13 straight tallies when Arancio and Smith found the back of the net in the first two minutes of the second half, and the Green and Gold breezed to the win.

The Storm are home for a four-game stretch, beginning with Saturday's noon clash with Cazenovia College. Keuka also hosts Morrisville State (Sunday), Lancaster Bible College (April 12) and Wilson College (April 13) during the homestand.
