Balanced Men's Lax Knocks Off Wells

Senior Nick Scherer (Oneida, NY/Oneida) scored a career-high six points on three goals with three assists and 14 different student-athletes had at least one point as the Keuka College men's lacrosse team defeated Wells College 22-6 on a rainy Monday afternoon at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex in Keuka Park, N.Y.

Senior Connor Latimer (Whitby, Ont./Father Leo J. Austin) also scored three goals with three assists, scoring all six of his points in the first eight minutes and 36 seconds of action as the Storm (9-0, 5-0 NEAC) jumped out to a 9-0 lead.

It was the third straight game the Green and Gold have scored 20 or more goals.

Sophomore Ryan Enright (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) scored a career-high three goals, classmate Sam Cooper (Corning, NY/Corning) added a career-high five points on two goals with three assists and sophomore Matt Beebe (Syracuse, NY/LaFayette) had two goals and two assists for the Green and Gold. 

Junior Jake Bedosky (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) added a goal with two assists while senior Mike Donals (Livonia, NY/Livonia) added two goals with six groundballs as the Storm remained perfect in NEAC play.

Freshman Matt Mahalick (LaFayette, NY/LaFayette) had a goal with an assist and also collected a career-high 15 groundballs while winning 89.5 percent of his faceoffs (17 of 19).

Senior Andrew Smith (Livonia, NY/Livonia) collected six groundballs and caused four turnovers, while Scherer had four groundballs with two caused turnovers and sophomore Nick Barbay (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) added two assists with three groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers.

Sophomore Clayton Vaughn (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) caused three turnovers, collected three groundballs and also scored a goal while junior Ronald Blaessig (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) caused three turnovers against the Express.

Freshman Jacob Wood (Marietta, NY/Auburn) improved to 4-0 after making four saves and allowing three first-half goals. Senior Cameron Gormel (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) came on to start the second half and made five saves while allowing two goals in 28:16 of action.

The Storm forced Wells (3-4, 0-4 NEAC) into 31 turnovers while enjoying a 70-37 edge in groundballs.   

The Storm, the three-time defending NEAC postseason champions, travel to Medaille College for a 7 p.m. clash Wednesday night.
