Box Score 2 The Keuka College softball team swept a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader from Morrisville State for the second time in as many days, winning its home openers on a sunny Saturday in Keuka Park, N.Y.
Keuka College won by scores of 5-4 and 5-1 to sweep the season series with the Mustangs.
Freshman Samantha Blum (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) drove in the winning run on an RBI double in the first game, while senior Deliane Lessard (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) smacked a two-run triple and classmate Jill Hart (Cowlesville, NY/Iroquois) added an RBI single in the nightcap for the Storm (5-5, 5-1 NEAC).
Blum was 3-for-3 with two RBI, freshman Tally McDonald (Romulus, NY/Romulus) was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored and Lessard and sophomore Mackenzie Cole (Ogdensburg, NY/Ogdensburg Free Academy) each were 2-for-3 with a run scored in the opener.
The Green and Gold scored four runs in the first inning to take an early lead. After Cole walked, Lessard singled and Hart plated Cole on an RBI double to left-center field. McDonald pushed the lead to 2-0 on an RBI single to center field, Blum drove in Hart on an RBI single and freshman Janel Prince (Holley, NY/Elba) extended the lead to 4-0 on a fielder's choice.
After allowing a leadoff single, senior Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) settled down and retired 12 of the next 13 batters until the Mustangs (2-15, 2-6 NEAC) tied the score with four runs on six hits in the top of the fifth.
Neither team scored again until the seventh, when McDonald had a one-out single and scored the winning run on Blum's double to the gap in right-center field.
Gravel improved to 2-3 after allowing four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts in the complete game win.
In the nightcap, sophomore Ally Muller (Bath, NY/Haverling) doubled to lead off the second inning, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Blum's fielder's choice for a 1-0 lead.
The Green and Gold tacked on a run in the third. Freshman Brianna Long (Arkport, NY/Dansville) singled, advanced to second when Lessard drew a walk and scored on Hart's RBI single through the left side of the infield for a 2-0 lead.
The Mustangs got a run back in the top of the fifth before the Storm took control for good thanks to a three-run fifth. Long and Cole each singled before Lessard drove them both home with a triple, then Lessard completed the scoring for the Storm when she crossed the plate on an error.
Sophomore Liz Warren (Elmira Heights, NY/Thomas A. Edison), who no-hit the Mustangs on Friday, allowed two hits with an unearned run and six strikeouts in the complete-game win.
The Storm host Cazenovia College at 1 p.m. Sunday in a NEAC doubleheader.
