Men's Lax Displays Balance in Win over Hilbert

Sophomore Matt Beebe (Syracuse, NY/LaFayette) equaled his career-high with six goals and junior Cory Gray (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) set a career-high with eight points as the Keuka College men's lacrosse team remained undefeated with a 20-7 win over Hilbert College Thursday afternoon in Hamburg, N.Y.

Eleven different student-athletes recorded at least a point as the Storm (7-0, 3-0 NEAC) remained perfect on the year while setting a season-high for goals scored.

Beebe added two assists while Gray had five goals with three assists and senior Connor Latimer (Whitby, Ont./Father Leo J. Austin) chipped in with three goals to power the Green and Gold.

Sophomore Brendan King (Auburn, NY/Auburn) scored twice while junior James Voigt (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) had a goal and an assist and classmate Derek Pfeiffer (Lee Center, NY/Rome Free Academy) tallied two assists in the win.

Senior Jeff Roth (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), sophomore Ryan Enright (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) and freshman Jamie Kuppel (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) each added goals to lead the Storm past the Hawks (4-3, 3-1) in a rematch of the 2013 NEAC championship game, won by the Storm 17-5.

Junior Marc Sacco (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) collected seven groundballs while Gray, Voigt and King each added three groundballs for the Storm. King and Sacco each caused two turnovers as the Green and Gold forced Hilbert into 28 turnovers.

Freshman Jacob Wood (Marietta, NY/Auburn) started in goal and made four saves while allowing five goals in the first half while junior Eric Saltrelli (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) made six saves and allowed two-second half goals in the win.

Beebe scored the first two goals of the contest before Hilbert pulled within one on a tally from Doug Takac. Voigt found Gray for a 3-1 lead with 4:51 remaining in the opening quarter before Latimer scored an unassisted goal less than two minutes later as the Storm took a 4-1 lead into the second.

The Green and Gold exploded for eight goals in the second quarter as Gray scored three times, Beebe scored twice and Voigt, Latimer and Kuppel all added goals during the run as the Storm took a 12-5 lead into halftime.

King scored twice in the third while Latimer and Beebe added tallies as Keuka College led 16-7 and cruised to the win.

The Storm, the three-time defending NEAC postseason champions, travel to SUNY Cobleskill for a noon clash on April 12 before hosting Wells College at 4 p.m. Monday.
