Box Score

Senior Maggie Bonafede (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) scored seven points on three goals with four assists while classmate Korie Fitzgerald (Vestal, NY/Vestal) stopped a career-high 15 shots to power the Keuka College women's lacrosse team to an 11-9 win over SUNY Canton Tuesday at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Senior Taylor Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) tallied three goals while junior Kaycee Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) added two goals and an assist as the Storm (1-1) picked up their first win.

Smith and freshman Morgan Bruno (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse) each collected five groundballs while Maguire collected four groundballs for Keuka, the defending North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) postseason champions.

Smith also won five draw controls while junior Jennifer Burt (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) won four draw controls for the Storm.

Robyn Carroll (two goals, one assist) staked Canton to a 1-0 lead 25 seconds in, but Bruno and Bonafede each had goals as Keuka took a 2-1 lead 4:10 into the opening half.

Keeley Rice knotted the score at 2 with 23:25 remaining in the first, and neither team scored until Maguire's unassisted tally with 13:40 remaining made it 3-2 Keuka.

Smith's first goal staked the Storm to a 4-2 lead, but Rice responded with a free-position goal as Canton trailed 4-3 with 11:37 remaining.

Keuka answered with four goals in a span of 4:28 to take an 8-3 lead. Bonafede scored twice while Burt and senior Caroline Arancio (Clinton, NY/Clinton) each added goals during the run for the Storm.

The schools traded goals, and Keuka led 11-6 on Maguire's free-position goal with 4:24 remaining. Canton went on a 3-0 run to pull within 11-9 on Megan Poupore's goal with 1:17 remaining, but the Storm won the draw control and maintained possession to pull out the win.

The Storm improved to 3-0 all-time against the Roos (0-1). Keuka defeated Canton 12-7 on March 16, 2013, and 18-1 on March 14, 2012.

Keuka is off until hosting Alfred University for a 4 p.m. non-conference clash March 19.
