Women's Soccer Falls to First-Place Berks

Freshman Kenna Kosinski (Mumford, N.Y./Caledonia-Mumford) made a career-high 15 saves, but the Keuka College women's soccer team fell to first-place Penn State-Berks 5-0 Friday afternoon at the Jephson Community Athletic Conference.

The Wolfpack (9-5-1, 8-3 NEAC) were outshot by the Nittany Lions (15-1, 11-0) 36-6 and suffered just their second loss in six home games.

The Green and Gold held a high-flying Berks attack scoreless for the first 27 minutes, but the Nittany Lions, who entered the match scoring 6.4 goals per game, struck in the 28th minute.

Jen Kessler scored off a scrum in front of the net, then Brennan Moyer converted a loose ball in front of the net for a 2-0 lead with 2:58 remaining in the opening half.

Keuka had its first good scoring opportunity 40 seconds into the second half. Freshman Nicole Browe (Kendall, N.Y./Kendall) had a good look from 15 yards out, but her shot sailed wide.

Berks' extended the lead to 3-0 on a tally from Lizzie Mummau in the 50th minute, and tacked on a pair of late goals to win for the 15th straight game.

Kosinski finished with six saves in the first half and nine stops in the second half.

The Wolfpack close the regular season with a 1 p.m. NEAC clash with Lancaster Bible College Saturday afternoon.

If Keuka knocks off Lancaster Bible (12-4, 9-2), the Wolfpack will earn the No. 3 seed and a home game for the NEAC quarterfinals, Saturday, Nov. 1.

The top two schools earn a bye into the NEAC semifinals, Nov. 8-9. The No. 3 seed plays the No. 6 seed in one quarterfinal, and the No. 4 seed hosts the No. 5 seed in the other quarterfinal Nov. 1.

Berks is currently in first place, followed by Penn State-Abington (12-4, 11-1), Keuka and Lancaster Bible.
