Junior Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) and freshman Liz Warren (Elmira Heights, NY/Thomas A. Edison) combined to allow only one run on nine hits as the Keuka College softball team swept Saturday's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader with Cazenovia College.
Keuka (3-1, 3-1 NEAC) won by scores of 2-1 and 7-0.
Gravel, the reigning NEAC North Pitcher of the Year, allowed one run on five hits with five strikeouts during a 2-1 game one victory.
After sophomore Kelly Proper (Silver Springs, NY/Letchworth) and junior Montana McDonald (Romulus, NY/Romulus) delivered singles, sophomore Haley Jordan (Auburn, NY/Auburn) staked Keuka to a 1-0 lead on an RBI single through the left side of the infield in the bottom of the second inning.
Cazenovia (0-10, 0-2 NEAC) tied the score on a groundout in the top of the third, and the score remained tied until the fifth, when junior Jill Hart (Cowlesville, NY/Iroquois) drove in the eventual game-winning run on a sacrifice fly.
Gravel made the lead stand, retiring the Wildcats in order in the sixth and working around a pair of singles in the seventh to earn her first win of 2013. With runners on first and second and only one out in the seventh, Gravel induced Paige Altman into a game-ending double play to seal the win.
