Latimer, Men's Lax Win 10th Straight

Junior Connor Latimer (Whitby, ON/Genesee Community College) scored a season-most 10 points to help the Keuka College men's lacrosse team earn its 10th straight win, 25-10 over Cazenovia College Saturday afternoon in Cazenovia, N.Y.

Latimer, the national leader in assists and points per game, exploded for seven goals and three assists, sophomore Cory Gray (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) added five goals and sophomore Anthony Luppino (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) totaled one goal and four assists as the Storm (10-1, 7-0 NEAC) concluded the regular season undefeated in NEAC play.

Keuka, which has captured the last two NEAC postseason championships, will host rival Morrisville State in the semifinals, 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

If the Storm win their semifinal, they will then host the conference championship on Saturday, May 4.

It was the ninth time in 11 games that Latimer, a two-time Junior College All-American at Genesee Community College, has scored at least five points in a game. Latimer, an attacker, leads the Storm in goals (36), assists (38) and points (74) and his 6.73 points per game currently leads all of Division III.

Sophomore James Voigt (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) scored five goals with two assists to match his career high for points and goals in a game. Freshman Matt Beebe (LaFayette, NY/LaFayette) added a goal and two assists as 11 different student-athletes recorded a point against Cazenovia (4-8, 2-5).

Luppino scooped up a game-high seven groundballs, senior Mike Crumlish (Hilton, NY/Hilton) added one goal, one assist and six groundballs and junior Kenny Cannon (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) added one goal and six groundballs for the Storm.

Junior Zach Koczent (Geneva, NY/Geneva) won 10 of 14 faceoffs and collected six groundballs while classmate Kaisch Wheeler (Phoenix, NY/Baldwinsville) went 9-for-15 on faceoffs and added six groundballs for the Storm, who enjoyed a 51-32 edge in groundballs.

Latimer scored three-man up goals and Beebe added a man-up goal while Gray converted a man-down goal for the Green and Gold, who have outscored the competition 193-52 during the winning streak.

Latimer had three first-quarter goals while Voigt and Luppino each scored twice as the Storm took a 9-3 lead into the second quarter.

After Vincent Halsey scored with 8:22 remaining to pull the Wildcats within 12-6, Keuka clamped down and held Cazenovia scoreless for 25:04 spanning the second, third and fourth quarters to pull away. Gray scored four goals, Voigt had three goals and Latimer scored twice during the 9-0 run for the Storm, who led 21-6 heading into the fourth.

Sophomore Eric Saltrelli (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) made five saves and allowed six goals in 45 minutes to improve to 9-1.
